BVI flags 38 countries! Limited entry allowed to compliant crew members of ships, aircraft

As the global coronavirus pandemic continues, the British Virgin Islands has now imposed travel restrictions on more than three dozen countries.

This is according to the territory’s updated and Passport (Prohibition of Entry) Order which came into effect on Tuesday, April 7.

The Order prohibits persons travelling from or through its list of 38 flagged countries from entering the territory for a period of 11 days — which expires on April 18 — unless extended by the Immigration Minister.

The countries listed have all reported a high number of confirmed COVID-19 cases and include China, France, the United Kingdom and the United States, Spain, Germany, Canada, Iran and Italy. Collectively, those countries account for more than 85 percent of overall cases globally.

Regional countries — some of which have citizens who frequent the BVI — have also been listed and includes the neighbouring US Virgin Islands, the Dominican Republic, Martinique, Puerto Rico, and Guadeloupe. The list of flagged regional countries also includes Cuba, who is shipping 30 doctors to the territory to assist with the BVI’s fight against COVID-19.

Crew members of aircrafts and ships allowed limited entry

The Order, however, makes provisions to allow limited entry to crew members of an aircraft or ship who have travelled to, from, or through any of the 38 flagged countries with the last 14 days.

These crew members “may be permitted to enter the territory, provided that all international crew members shall remain on the aircraft or ship and comply with all relevant public health measures”.

The Order replaces the previous Immigration and Passport (Prohibition of Entry) (No. 2) Order which has since been revoked.

Please do not give in to pressure . Keep the borders closed . We have one chance to survive this. We do not have the medical capabilities to deal with this.

I to second that the bvi should not ALLOW ANY SHIPS – NO SHIPS NOR PLANES. TRY AND HOLD OFF AND KEEP THE PEOPLE TO HUNKER DOWN AND STAY HOME – STAY HOME.
THIS TO SHALL PASS. KEEP THE PEOPLE HOME AND PLEASE DO NOT LET ANY – ANY SHIPS/AIR CRAFTS TO ENTER FOR TIME TO LESSEN THE SPREAD OF THE VIRUS. CLOSE YOUR PORT – CLOSE YOUR PORT. IF NOT YOU MIGHT BE SORRY.
AS I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO KEEP UP WITH THE AMOUNT OF THE VIRUS IN THE BVI – IT HAS GREATELY INCREASED TO MUCH WORK ON CONTROLING – CONTROL – STAY IN DOORS AND PLEASE KEEP AND MAKE IT MANDATORY STAY MORE THAN SIX FEET APART – SIX FEET APART. WISHING THE BEST FOR THE BVI.

@ms, I do understand your concern but the ports of entry cannot be closed entirely. Cargo for example food items still have to enter the territory so that supermarkets can be restocked. After this 14 lock down is over,I am sure many people will need to restock groceries and the supermarkets will need to top up their supplies. As long as the foreign crew does not leave the port facility and other precautions are taken, god’s willing all will be fine.

    • NO says:

CURFEW WILL BE EXTENDED, wait and see.

.Yes, I too need to get back to work but remember many industries are not functioning, so what work we really going to do and employees done dont want to pay.

      Major issue here is FOOD.

  8. Cannot Afford the jobless says:

Any alien who has no job or business in the territory- send them home immediately- the country is now in a state of emergency practically- and cannot afford to carry any foreigner with no business here.
