BVI gov’t pledges $400K to Grenada and St Vincent
The Government of the Virgin Islands has pledged $400,000 to assist St Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada following the impact of Hurricane Beryl.
Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley announced this recently at the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) 11th Council of Ministers: Environmental Sustainability.
Dr Wheatley, who also serves as the Minister for Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change, and the Minister of Finance, stated: “The government and people of the Virgin Islands remember well with great appreciation the outpouring of assistance that we received from the OECS family in the aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and Maria and are now happy to extend a helping hand to our brethren in your hour of need. I am pleased to announce, a pledge to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Grenada of $200,000 each to contribute to your relief efforts.”
The Premier also used the opportunity to emphasise the need for climate resilience in the Caribbean. The BVI has been vocal in urging large, wealthy nations that contribute significantly to climate change to fund small, developing nations that are most affected by its impacts.
Dr Wheatley highlighted that small, developing nations need more support as climate change poses a great risk to their land and marine resources, which are crucial for their survival.

Expensive suit, Saville-Row, London ? Taylor to World Leaders
Where is he going to get 400K to give away? Festival will be very over budget, the roads desperately need cutting, not to mention replacing most of the roads, no audits so no borrowing, and a potential dissolution of this government.
Please put the Territory first; not currying favor.
Ya’ll forgetting how much SVG and other “small islands” rallied to support you after Irma and Maria? If we all maintain that selfish attitude we will never progress and unite as a region. Labour, food and clothes to help your territories, ungratefulness is a sin.
Squandering an opportunity – not to give would be apathetic – but would you please give district leaders more monies so they may give their people relief and stop humiliating themselves as your cabinet members have been either lying or laying in wait except for prancing around the people’s complaints
What about the infrastructure provision, Beautification Commission , safety and protections? What do the people want?
As to the reform issue the voter’s needs may have been forgotten at the last election – but you’ll recognize that timeline is on us and focus on us now and delegate The kudos Campaign!
So continue Hon Premier lead and continue to amplify your good governance and humanity.
Yes I pledge this money to my wife vicentian people, they will see she have power and a say in the BVI affairs.
Well the Premier loves his wife and do what he can to help her people. In addition it good for regional relationships.
is only a hope that someday in the future some amount of money will move from the BVI towards Grenada & St. Vincent for hurricane recovery.
More likely the money will never leave the BVI by disappearing into the accounts of a select group of influential families.
U ant address the killings by the market yet your friend in crime? U coming on here every day bullying the people all the time. U haven’t do anything for the BVI . U are a smart guy at all
I don’t mind you helping Caribbean nation in disaster, but fix your own also.
