Though the BVI’s national senior men’s football team played valiantly, they were defeated by Team Guatemala in a World Cup qualifier game held at the A.O. Shirley Recreational Grounds in Road Town on June 8.

Guatemala defeated the BVI team 3-0.

The BVI’s coach, Chris Kiwomya, attributed the loss to the fact that the visiting team was stronger and more professional compared to theirs.

“They are professional players; our players have jobs, football is their second job,” he stated.

Guatemala’s winning streak continues after defeating Dominica on June 5 with a 6-0 victory.

Kiwomya said he observed Dominica’s tactical errors during that match, stating, “Dominica gave them (Guatemala players) space to play between; we didn’t give them space.”

Troy Caesar said the game was an improvement compared to the team’s previous performances.

“Every game that we play, especially against players like them, will be a learning experience,” Caesar stated.

The BVI is expected to play against the Dominican Republic on their home ground on June 11.

That wasn’t a team / that was a crowd , all ah dem playing in the same place in the center of their own Half and surrounded by the other team like they were arrested / the bvi team made themselves look jokey . the players got some skills and have played much better before , the acted like they were intimidated on their own field , and speaking from my experience , we could have done much better because I have seen the bvi team play a lot better before . The coa h and the team needs to get their act together for the
FUTURE if they are really serious ( the standard of foot ball has dropped compare to yhe eighties and nineties overall , abd it isn’t for the lack of skills , it’s just they didn’t use those skills

Guatemala is ranked in the top 10 in concacaf, with professional players. Do you think a bunch of amateurs in the BVI’s team can go toe to toe with them and come out ontop? They had to first prevent them from scoring and hope for a break to score. Dominica tried to attack them and lost 6 nil!!
