BVI should resist any COI recommendation for a caretaker gov’t

Claude Skelton Cline

Radio commentator and clergyman, Pastor Claude Skelton Cline has issued a series of warnings about potential recommendations that may arise from the Commission of Inquiry’s (COI) report now in the hands of Governor John Rankin.

Among his warnings was that BVI should be mindful of any recommendations that suggested a change of its governance structure.

“I think we’re going to see some recommendations that seek to shift responsibility from the local ministerial functions to the governor. We must be prepared to resist that. That’s a retrograde move that retards the [self-determination] process,” Skelton Cline stated on his Honestly Speaking radio show recently.

“We should resist any recommendations for any kind of caretaker government. That is not for the UK [to do],“ he added.

He also advised that the BVI look for recommendations that may speak to constitutional change.

“That’s for us to do, not the UK,” Skelton Cline said. “The matter of the constitution is a matter singularly for the people in pursuit of their own aspirations,” added the controversial clergyman whose business with the government was called into question during the COI.

“I haven’t seen the report, I haven’t read the report. But any thinking person … we need to collaborate, we need to think. You need to get some people around you who know more than you do and begin to have some discussions,” the clergyman insisted.

The host also warned that the territory must be mindful of any mechanisms that might be put in place to ensure the report’s recommendations are implemented.

Skelton Cline further urged that the BVI should examine whether the COI report seeks to hold the UK accountable for its role in its partnership with the territory.

According to Skelton Cline, the BVI should insist that the UK live up to its role as a signatory in the United Nations charter of 1945 regarding the decolonisation of overseas territories.

Upon receiving the report a few weeks ago, Governor Rankin said he needed time to peruse the lengthy report which he said contained more than 40 recommendations.

The governor advised that any announcements about the next steps regarding the COI report will be issued following the Easter holiday.

I think on TV commercials you see celebs labeled as “Paid Endorser”.

I’d stop reading the news if I wasn’t so morbidly fascinated with this train wreck..

Just reading the last couple articles on Cline and Penn … one is left shaking their head with the self centered narcissism that’s gift wrapped with ineptitude.

Is this truly all our country has to guide us into the future?

This country so desperately needs new blood to move us forwards. The is the main reason these guys are still here talking.

One little problem: hasn’t the self determination program pretty much made the country bankrupt, after decades of annual GNP > $ 1 billion?
