BVI welcomes first babies for 2025
The territory welcomed its first two babies of the year on Wednesday, January 2, at the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital.
According to the BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA), the babies were born just minutes apart. Both were initially expected to arrive on New Year’s Day. However, at approximately 12:10 PM on January 2, a baby boy named James Scott was born, weighing seven pounds and six ounces. Shortly after, a baby girl arrived, weighing seven pounds and 0.5 ounces, making baby James Scott the official first baby of the year.
As the first baby of 2025, James Scott’s parents, Rebecca Wohning and Oliver Scott, were presented with a special gift basket from the National Bank of the Virgin Islands. The basket was personally delivered by the bank’s Marketing Assistant, Hakeem Gravesande, as part of its partnership with the BVIHSA.
The second baby, born to Shantel Caine and Seymore Cole, also received a gift basket. This was presented by Nurse Manager Angela Rock and her team from the Obstetrics and Gynecology Unit.
The National Bank’s collaboration with the BVIHSA highlights a shared commitment to celebrating new beginnings and supporting families across the territory.
Another momentous occasion was marked on Christmas Day, when Kayla Lewis gave birth to a baby boy at approximately 1 AM on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital. The baby, weighing nine pounds, was the only child born on Christmas Day.
To celebrate this special birth, Deputy Governor David Archer paid a visit to Kayla Lewis and her baby, bringing thoughtful gifts to honor the joyous occasion.
These remarkable events underline the community’s dedication to cherishing and celebrating the milestones of its newest members.

Immaculate Conceptions?
Underscores the future of these VI,
Amazing tis tru..Nevah,well,rarely a baby daddy in sight but births like rabbits and picaninny all over the place and prison,no available space, overflowing with them at puberty and adulthood
DOS Hospital is competent and affordable , if locals would respond and demand corrrection to the fraudsters who are abusing NHI and causing the financial problems it would function even better. Unfortunately locals expect the Minister to wave a wand and change things instead of supporting him to enact change. Notice that instead of collaborating to find solutions (thats what they say they want) The duplicitous sister prefer to run to the Governor because their true motivations are power not helping the people. I am still waiting on their response on the abuse of NHI that results in poor service the the locals.. expats know a good value when they see one .
Geeze, was it too hard to wish the babies and parents the blessings of Jehovah and thanks to God for a safe delivery? Everything with ayo have to be political. Babies delivering before Peebles was Cottage Hospital and so many people were born at home with midwives. Life will always go on.
Because if the arbiters of the false narrative can use a death to exploit the public sentiments and misguide then the truth tellers wll use whatever means necessary to educae the public.
Proud Mom and DAD!
Congratulations!
On the safe delivery of their newborns. Welcome to little ones. Enjoy the ride.
Ahhmmm, sooo we have a marketing assistant delivering gifts to one baby, while nurses deliver gift to another, based on race?
Make it make sense!
Why didn’t marketing assistant(s),-two, to be exact, deliver the gifts to both recipients, since the gifts came from the banking sector?
Perhaps, it’s a mishap, but from the excerpt, it appears that race of the parents and infant born, may have played a role in the gift delivery process!
Soo sad!
your clearly the ‘sad’ one who obviously can’t read –
1st baby of the year (regardless of race) gets the NBVI gift basket
2ndbaby of the year (again, regardless of race) gets a gift from the OB/GYN department.
You are insiting racial hatred. Get withit. It’s 2025
Admin you should have deleted the first racial comment. And snoopy, they’re not worth responding too
At Peewee etal… Until the colour of the skin is of no more significance than the colour of the eyes you will hive this. The ignorance is past bliss just about now.
Was there a Dad present with the mother of their child based on race?
A statement of truth on the social defecit of the current dominant portion of the Community. No good can come of c this no matter what spin is chosen to place blame.
The future of these VI as it currently stand is nothing more than the failed Caribbean Island chain with certainty of overwhelming crime and poverty and zero family structure, systematically engineered by its predictable
self destruct powered by self hate.
