BVI’s first-time Olympians touch down in Paris
Local sprinter Adaejah Hodge has arrived in Paris, France, for the Summer Olympics, where she will make her debut as the youngest Olympian to compete in the women’s 200-meter event.
This marks the 18-year-old’s first time competing at the Olympics.
During an interview with Sofia Faye, BVI Olympic Committee Public Relations Officer (PRO), Hodge said the realisation had not set in for her yet.
“I think once I look up at the crowd and the fans, that’s when it’s going to hit me that I’m an Olympian,” explained Hodge, who was the BVI’s flag bearer for the Olympic opening ceremony. She described it as an honour to have that opportunity.
Another local sprinter, Rikkoi Brathwaite, was also present at the interview. Brathwaite, the national record holder for men’s 100-meter, will be representing the BVI at the Olympics for the first time as well.
The Paris Olympics, scheduled from July 26 to August 11, 2024, promises to be a significant event for these athletes.
