Cabinet approves new BVI Ports Authority board
The Virgin Islands Cabinet has approved six new members for the board of the BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA) and among that group is a former Commissioner of Police.
Cabinet documents published today indicated that the previous board member appointments of Roxane Sylvester, Keith Flax, Vincent Wattley, and Patsy Lake expired on May 15, 2022. These are coupled with the resignation of Kelvin Hodge as board Chairman on May 12, 2022.
As such, Cabinet appointed former Police Commissioner Michael Mathews and Asiyah Grant to serve for one year beginning August 29, 2022 and ending August 28, 2023.
Cabinet also approved Roxane Ritter-Herbert and Mr David Penn to serve on the BVIPA Board for three years with effect from August 29, 2022, to August 28, 2025. Government’s executive body further decided to appoint Allison Hermia-Tench and Kedreana Parson to serve for a period of two years with effect from August 29, 2022, to August 28, 2024.
Ritter-Herbert was appointed as the Chairman for the BVIPA board for three years. There will be seven ex officio members serving on the board and they include the BVIPA Managing Director, Permanent Secretary in the Premier’s Office, the Financial Secretary, the Chairman of the BVI Tourist Board, the Chairman of the BVI Airports Authority, the Director of the BVI Tourist Board and the Managing Director of the BVI Airports Authority.
According to the Cabinet document, members of the board will be paid a stipend for their services. The Chairman is expected to receive $1,800 per month, the Deputy Chair $1,500 per month and members $900 per month.
Cabinet has also decided that the Managing Director or any other employee of the BVI Ports Authority will not receive a stipend for attending board meetings as board attendance is in the purview of the duties of their role and would already be considered in the remuneration package.

Okay
They lost control of Customs so they mean they had to get the ports. BVI is a joke.
Just curious how many hours will they be working per month for this stipend?
Government got more board than CTL. YOWZER!!!
How many hours per month….
I thought they were paid only if they met.
There must be a reason why qualified individuals are not interested in serving on boards.
Here we go again with all new board appointments expiring at the same time. What happen to 1.5 year, 2.5 years etc. Are we deliberately still doing what we want when the law states when they should expire?
My understanding is that no one person could sit on two boards?
Other than that looks fine.
The commission of inquiry has ended up to be a big joke. Where are we now? back to the same crap. This place will never get cleaned up.
How many Boards was she being paid for. Total corruption
The 13 members of the Board cost the taxpayer $13,200 per month, $158,400 annually just to sit on a Board (It better meet twice a week for that!). What happened to Community Service. Really fed up with our government.
This lady failed every where she goes. Maybe it’s father payment for big financial contribution that VIP govt being getting. Hope this 5th time around she learn and knows the importance of fairness and of loving people..They are still finding away to get their Cronies in..We will ever be corrupted.
Is the governor smart or stupid, or is he making us think that he is stupid and he is giving us enough rope to hang ourselves,?Something ain right in this place..We are not serious!
No, it is my understanding that you don’t have to attend not even 10% of meetings to be paid.
All this $#!t tax payers pay for.
how about learning of any experience and qualifications these board members have to improve things?
