Caines blasts ‘heartless’ employers
Representative of the Sixth Electoral District Alvera Maduro-Caines has accused some employers of being heartless because they – among other things – have told workers that the time lost as a result of category 5 hurricanes Irma and Maria should be treated as vacation.
Hurricane Irma caused widespread destruction from which residents – including business operators and their employees – are still struggling to recover.
“Shame and heartless on the employers who made their employees take vacation days for the days they were out because of the hurricanes. Most roads were blocked for days.”
“In order for some employees to get their full pay, they were told they taking some of their vacation days. You all cold, heartless and lack compassion. Knowing what our country and people [are] going through. Where is the God in you employers?” Maduro-Canies asked in a post on social networking site Facebook.
She also expressed dissatisfaction with the treatment being meted out to some workers who have children.
“Employers, you making a fuss about workers coming to work. Some explain their situation about having no place to leave their child. Employer still making noise about not paying employee. Employee needing the money, brings child to work and puts in an unoccupied room – well behaved child. Employer still have a problem.”
“Employer, have a heart. This is just a temporary situation. Everyone is fighting an uphill battle. Why are some of us hell-bent on adding extra stress on others? How did we reach here as a people? Lord help us,” Maduro-Caines further said.
