Cemetery to get facelift

Dr Hubert O’Neal

Representative of the Ninth Electoral District Dr Hubert O’Neal has disclosed that, through a community effort, improvement works are to be undertaken at the cemetery on Virgin Gorda.

He stated that – among other things – there will be a memorial plaque of the persons buried there.

“[We will] clear the burial ground of shrubbery [and] overgrown trees, and clear the drains traversing it. [We also intend to] clean and paint the wall, landscape the grounds, mark the tombs, and erect a memorial plaque of all who were buried there. [We will] add benches and perhaps a water fountain to beautify the area,” Dr O’Neal said.

He noted that the cemetery is among various locations on Virgin Gorda that he, along with a group of volunteers, has planned to undertake improvement works over the next six weekends.

Dr O’Neal said the decision to undertake the projects was made after the tropical wave that affected the territory on August 7. He wants more members of the community to support the various initiatives – some of which BVI News Online reported earlier this week.
