‘Concerned’ Premier to review BVI’s building code
Following the Catergory 5 hurricane that flattened a number of properties and caused severe damage to several others last week, Premier Dr D Orland Smith said yesterday that the Government will be reviewing the territory’s Building Code.
“I have had concerns about the way foundations are cut on peoples properties and so we will take a very serious look at the Building Code again. It’s important.” Dr Smith said, adding that his Government has been evaluating the Planning Act over last past year.
He made the statement yesterday at a meeting with the Road Town business community who said they are eager to start the rebuilding process.
A number of businesses were among the structures gutted by Hurricane Irma which carried storm force winds in the upwards of 180 miles per hour.
