Contractor gives 20-year warranty for Iris O’Neal Clinic roof repairs

The Iris Nurse O’Neal Medical Centre on Virgin Gorda.

The contractor selected to repair the roof of the Nurse Iris O’Neal Medical Centre on Virgin Gorda has promised a high-performance roofing system backed by a warranty of more than 20 years.

This means if the roof develops problems covered by the warranty within 20 years, the contractor would be expected to fix them at no additional cost.

Speaking at the contract signing ceremony recently, Director of Professional Roofing Kishor Kinani acknowledged the importance of getting the project right.

“The roofing system for this project will carry a 20-year-plus warranty,” Kinani said. But he stressed that the company’s responsibility will extend beyond completion of the works.

“Our commitment does not end when the roof is completed or when we leave the job,” he said. “Professional Roofing intends to stand behind our workmanship and the roofing system we install.” He announced that the company will install a fibre-type, high-performance roofing system designed to withstand the BVI’s harsh weather conditions, including intense heat, heavy rainfall, salt air, high winds and hurricanes.

Kinani said similar roofing systems have been used on critical facilities internationally, including hospitals, airports and data centres where reliability is essential.

The assurance comes amid long-standing complaints from the Virgin Gorda community who believe that poor quality of the initial works led to persistent leaks and damage that eventually disrupted operations.

The roof repairs are expected to pave the way for the medical centre to return to reliable operations after the prolonged disruption, which has caused frustration among Virgin Gorda residents.

While it’s encouraging to hear that the new roof may be backed by a 20-plus-year warranty, a roof alone will not solve the healthcare challenges facing VG.

What good is a state-of-the-art roof if residents still cannot rely on 24-hour emergency care, dialysis services, or specialist treatment such as a dentist or eye doctor and must travel by sea or air for care that could be provided right here?

VG is one of the country’s busiest tourism hubs, yet healthcare services remain inadequate and inconsistent. Residents and visitors deserve a facility that is properly staffed, equipped, and resourced.

Fixing the roof is necessary, but buildings do not provide healthcare; people and resources do. What Virgin Gorda truly needs is investment in medical professionals, equipment, specialist services, and essential resources to ensure the Medical Centre can deliver the quality care the community has long deserved.

In the sign business, 1/2 a million for design and fitting what in reality is a few light fittings. Why didn’t the original contractor give a 20 year warranty on building guaranteed with a retention of final payment! Answer because their cousin didn’t want that .

That is assuming the company is there in 20 years to do any warranty work if required. I’d guess that upon completion, the entity may well fold down, and a new entity created, thereby leaving the taxpayer with any defects to resolve.

I know it is sad to think that way, but that is how bad minded this country has become!

Is Todmans warranty paying for the repairs?

Todman walked away with ove $6 Million. Admittedly some of that will allegedly have been given up in the contract bribes and cashbacks.

But $4Million left over from this $2Million useless building for the corrupt cashbacks and now no one calling on Todman to put it right.

What a corrupt culture the VI has.

Is the @Billion Lift at the Admin complex done yet? Wonder what warranty when that goes wrong. I can see all the people in the HOA counting there share now.
