Cops recover firearm, gunmen’s vessel after land and sea chases

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has recovered a go-fast vessel used by gunmen as well as a firearm following two separate police pursuits on sea and land on Sunday, August 25.

According to a press release from the local police, the RVIPF and US Customs & Border Control intercepted a go-fast vessel near Jost Van Dyke, where the individuals on board fired shots at the officers. The vessel was eventually abandoned on the western end of Tortola as the suspects escaped on foot. The number of suspects involved has not been disclosed, and the police assured the public that the investigation is ongoing.

Although the vessel is now in police custody, the suspects remain at large as the investigation continues.

Meanwhile, officers were also in pursuit of two vehicles suspected of lookout activities in Hawk’s Nest. The RVIPF indicated that a weapon was recovered after one vehicle went over an embankment during the chase, leaving one male abandoned and injured.

“On Monday, August 26, at the break of dawn, RVIPF officers returned to the scene and recovered an AK-47 assault rifle. Additionally, a male individual with serious injuries was found and promptly transported to Dr D Orlando Hospital for treatment,” the RVIPF reported.

Acting Commissioner Jacqueline Vanterpool urged the public to assist in the investigation and emphasised that these acts put the entire community at risk.

“The reckless actions of these criminals endanger not just our officers but the entire community. We cannot allow our waters to become a haven for illegal activity. It is imperative that we unite to bring those responsible to justice and ensure the safety of our islands,” the Acting COP declared, referring to the go-fast vessels and their elusive suspects.

The public is encouraged to provide the police with any information that may be useful in solving these or any other criminal activities.

Any information can be directed to the Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-8477 (TIPS) or the RVIPF Intelligence Department at 284-368-9339.

The RVIPF assured the public that any information provided will be kept confidential.

Where exactly did the suspects abandon their vessel on the western end of JVD??? Apart from White Bay beach the western end of JVD is all rocks, cliffs and bush. Escape by foot is unlikely.

Everyone asking all these questions and pointing fingers at what they think is bad police work. The reality is it’s just lousy journalism. No efforts made to answer the questions you all are asking before they print the story. No follow up by investigating reporters. Do we even have any investigative journalists here? Poorly written articles like this only serve to undermine the public’s confidence in law enforcement.

      True!
You have made a valid point, Rarely is there followup reporting which in effect hinders tips from the community.

Wow the blood thirst has come out. SHOOT THEM aya yai. Look just protect the border we dont need to be out for blood if the police use technology they can follow those people anywhere.

When night falls in Ukraine do you think the drones with AK-47s, bombs and other assault weapons attached… do you think they stop the flying at night?

I have to marvel at this because between legit government and the smuggler/assasin none are making life easier for the common person. Yet when the government runs away with out 7m, 40m, 1m, 9m. on & on, we dont say execute them for corruption.

We leave them right in office to steal from us again while the governor is head of the public service.

When the slaves ran away from the plantation I can bet some were sucking up to the overseer saying burn burn burn them! They have society in this cat and mouse game over worthless substance called cocaine.

Legalize it and stop the drama, the pills from the doctor can kill you quicker & addictive too.

The pelicans are too soft. Diving for fish that’s out of common reach and gulping it down. The elected would let them gang form under their nose and say they are not involved. They distance from their own to please a foreign culture.

They are too used to shaving their head, bowing down to master for him to watch the other way while they take a piece of the pie, and ACTING presentable. Like clean shave baby face Andrew.

They dont want to get involved and act like real leaders, eventually the master would be the thugs they didnt want to get involved with & lead while they had the chance to pull the reigns.

Fast forward. Burglary/robbery/murder. They dont want to legalize guns, they scared to legalize weed because they sucking up the master again. Meanwhile the thugs getting more respect & more money, more need for weapons.

We dont f-in think a couple steps ahead, just pure reaction. You cant be a grandmaster with those moves.

If you dont have a plan, you get swept up in another man’s plan.
