COVID closes Ministry of Natural Resources, Labour & Immigration

The Ministry of Natural Resources, Labour, & Immigration is closed from Thursday, July 1 until further notice.

The ministry issued that announcement minutes of 8 pm on Wednesday.

“The reason for closure is that two members of staff have tested positive for COVID-19 and in accordance with Public Health procedures, unvaccinated and partially vaccinated members of staff are being required to isolate for 10-14 days followed by the appropriate testing,” the ministry stated.

It is not immediately clear whether all ministry’s departments are closed. But this is at least the second government agency that has been indefinitely closed because of COVID-19. The other is the Magistrate’s Court on Tortola.

The news comes as the Ministry of Health is undergoing a major contact tracing exercise amid confirmed reports of 49 active cases of COVID-19 in the territory.

Persons who believe they’ve been exposed to COVID-19 and would like information on what steps to take are advised to contact the Public Health Unit at 284-468-4936 or 284-468-2285.

BVI’s active COVID cases spike to 49

The BVI Government dropped the ball on Covid19. We had enough vaccine to vaccinate people but the Government did not educate the population but let misinformation being spread. Gibraltar another UK-Territory with about the same population as the BVI is almost fully vaccinated and residents are enjoying life and tourism is thriving.

    • Fact Check says:

It didn’t happen overnight. They had
4,348 cases and 94 deaths. So even if they were not vaccinated many would have developed natural immunity given that they had the virus.

Please don’t compare its not the right comparison.

    • @reality says:

Government has taken all measures it could do but it is people who grossly failed to follow what government gas proposed, that is vaccination, some idiots have ignored and now they face it, I wish those non Vaxxies don’t go to hospital and infect others instead use their home remedies “ bush tea, sea bath, sand eating”

  2. Elsa says:

See how we like to blame the Government for everything, when they are begging people to come and take the vaccine before they expire. This is one topic which Government has tried to educate people about. People are ignorant and refusing to take the vaccine and now blaming Government. Please stop

  3. Facts says:

First of all these places were not close so I don’t even know why is this on the news. I don’t know what is going on but a lot of false information has been coming from government lately.

  4. @x says:

The Premier could have been vaccinated on Day 1 rather than wait six weeks!!!

I heard there were persons of interest at the BVI Ports Authority and no one said a word to the staff. How irresponsible could that be?
