Digicel battles to restore service after TS Ernesto
Telecommunications provider Digicel has announced that it is working to restore mobile and fibre services disrupted by Tropical Storm Ernesto.
“Due to the impact of Tropical Storm Ernesto, both our mobile and fibre networks have been affected in some areas,” Digicel stated in a Facebook post yesterday. “We are actively working to restore service as quickly as possible.
“Many residents are currently without phone or internet service due to outages affecting several areas following the storm, which unleashed heavy rain and powerful winds, toppling trees and power lines, and triggering severe flooding in certain places.
“Some areas are currently without service due to power outages,” Digicel explained. “A major fibre cable has sustained significant damage, particularly affecting customers in East End and Virgin Gorda.”
Affected areas on Tortola include Josiah’s Bay, East End, Lambert/Balsam Ghut, Hodges Creek, Paraquita Bay, Greenland, Parham Town, and Beef Island, where fibre (Digicel+) outages have been reported. Mobile service outages have also occurred in Frenchman’s Cay, Parham Town, Long Trench, Luck Hill, parts of Cane Garden Bay and Brewers Bay, Sage Mountain, Towers, and Fort Recovery. On Virgin Gorda, mobile service outages are affecting customers in Coal Mine and Nail Bay.
Digicel has urged customers to report any service disruptions by calling #100.
“Rest assured, our repair crews are on standby and will be dispatched to assist you as soon as possible,” the company stated, reaffirming its commitment to restoring services quickly.
“Our technical team is out and about making sure you, our customers, are up and running. Continue to make those reports to the Call Center: #100 or 300-3444 & 300-1000. We are working for you!”
