Direct flights between VG and San Juan starting December 17

Premier Andrew Fahie

The Taddy Bay International Airport in Virgin Gorda is expected to see more direct flights coming from San Juan, Puerto Rico in the coming weeks.

The Premier and Minister of Tourism, Andrew Fahie said this uptick in flights to the sister island is because of an increase in tourist arrivals.

He noted that the recent upgrades and subsequent reopening of the airport meant the territory’s partners in the aviation industry are now able to offer direct airlifts from San Juan.

“Our airline partners are reporting high interest from passengers wanting to visit Virgin Gorda. I’m happy to report that from December 17, the direct commercial flights from San Juan to Virgin Gorda will begin. From December 17 and onwards, Cape Air will be commencing three flights daily into Virgin Gorda and out of the Taddy Bay Airport between Virgin Gorda and San Juan,” Fahie said.

“Flights will arrive in Virgin Gorda daily at 10 am, 1:43 pm, and 5;16 pm. There will be departures from Virgin Gorda to San Juan daily at 7:05 am, 11:05 am and 1:58 pm. This is progress and for this we say all thanks and glory to God,” the Tourism Minister added.

Fahie also mentioned his government is currently in negotiations to further increase the airlift in Virgin Gorda and Anegada, especially since the Captain Auguste George Airport has been approved for night flights.

The Tourism Minister added that the government’s airline partners have reported an increase in the number of persons looking to take daily chartered flights into the two sister islands.

“There is high interest from a few airlines for daily charters into and out of Virgin Gorda and Anegada, as is already the case at the Terrence B. Lettsome Airport. So, we are going to see more persons flying into our sister islands of Virgin Gorda and Anegada. If there are persons listening who want to do this now, it is possible. Just contact the airlines and let them know you are interested,” he said.

“All of this is good news for our economy, for our tax and tour operators; our food vendors, restaurants, bars, car rentals, accommodation operators and all our other tourism business,” Fahie added.

“Auguste George Airport has been approved for night flights.” It was stated earlier that VG & Anegada airports are closed at night ?

  2. Great News says:

Cape Air is a good partner

  3. Hmmm. says:

The correct wording should be that after the airport was closed and now reopened cape air is returning. They have always offered direct flight to and from San Juan. Stop trying to make it sound like they the airport never had direct private or commercial flights to San Juan.

Planes have been flying from SJU direction to Virgin Gorda for many years, as late as 22 years ago after coming out of hospital and being able to fly straight home. What is the big deal now? stop hyping every little thing

You can tell that you are a hater. If the government did not re-open the Virgin Gorda airport then this would not have been possible. Learn to give the government credit when they do well and stop the foolish hating.

I read the comment and didnt think the person was being a hater. Simply telling the facts. The Priemers words would make one to believe that his administrationwas was the one who brought direct flights between VG and SJU for the first time which is nothing further from the truth. He is known to twist and turn words like its gospel. Had he said the reopening of the airport by the government allowed for VG and SJU flights to resume the people on VG would have taken that better.
