Drug trade is deeply worrying — Governor

Governor Rankin

As the BVI continues to process news that cocaine was being transported by the small aircraft that crashed on Anegada last week, Governor John Rankin has stated that the scale of the guns and drugs trade is “deeply worrying.”

The plane crash happened at the Auguste George Airport on Anegada last Wednesday morning. However, Governor Rankin, Deputy Commissioner of Police St Claire Amory and members of the BVI Airports Authority visited the sister island on Friday.

The Governor said: “We must urgently increase security at the airport to tackle its misuse for the illegal transportation of drugs. I will work together with the National Security Council, the RVIPF and the Airports Authority to achieve this.”

He added: “Whilst the growing number of seizures of drugs and guns is encouraging, the scale of the problem is deeply worrying. The security of the Virgin Islands is my top priority.”

When the plane crash happened last Wednesday, BVI police released a brief statement on the matter but did not tell the public that the aircraft was loaded with cocaine. However, media outlets started reporting that bags of drugs weighing some 35 kilograms were also found.

US Customs and Border Patrol agents are also assisting the BVI’s police with the investigations.

at night with the weapons on the UK navy ship or submarine patrolling BVI waters. The UK military should be able to control the drug trade better than the RBVIPF.

If your supposition is so effective, why is the DRUG PROBLEM so prevalent in the UK, USA, EU and in all the counntries, and especually with strong militaries, developed economies and excessive resources?

Why is there a so called DRUG PROBLEM in the first instance?

Is the Bird sanctuary some how eunique to that problem?

Who is really making the huge money from the trade?

Think it is the small man they catch peddling or smuggling trying to feed his family or provide a shelter is? Nope, it is the ones that bowed down to and are given the highest respect and positions in every society afflicted that are making the money.

For example, the so called War on Drugs, initiated by the US over three decades ago. Has it had any results? Nope..Did the rich get richer as a result Yep!

Whe it comes to these societal matters, the hypocrisy, corruption, deceit, dishonesty and lies are monumental.

Building the case to put a white man as head of customs. BVI people stop being stupid. Pay attention. You will have a white governor, a white police commissioner, a white prison superintendent, a white commissioner of customs and you already have an Oreo cookie as DPP. Pay attention.

  12. Truth says:

while I agree for the need to address the issue, I question the method and certainly the implication that only the UK Military is capable. As a poster replied to simply solution the US and UK are 2 of the highest consumers of cocaine (BVI does do not even register) so their effectiveness is questionable. Any solution needs to be a partnership, there are techniques that we can learn and benefit from. But any insinuation that we are incapable of being part of the solution is dishonest, supercilious and gives credibility to those who detect hidden agendas in the constant call for military intervention.

There are many, sadly, wo blog on this site comments reminescent of a racist. They reflect the times and thinking as though we are still livingin arparthied Ssoth Africa.

We are a new generation and we will not tolerate such. We will not accept neither recolonialisation, imperialism, gun boatt diplomacy or imperialistic take over of our land and resources…

People we must begin to recognize and protest the “sly fox” take over. For example, Governer, Chief of Police, Chief Customs Officer are all signs of imperialistic take over.

    Beware and act accordingly.

The only worrying thing is the uptick of senseless killings. Transport of drugs has been going on in the BVI for decades upon decades except now the youngsters like they have gone crazy and killing each other instead of investing their money into something with sense and enjoying life. Many of the ‘honest’ businesses here providing ‘honest’ pay for people were started with drug proceeds. Dislike and comment all you want but it won’t change those facts.

  17. They must be held accountable says:

No one has the balls to investigate if the governor and police commissioner is involved in the drug trade now go smoke that

  18. Well suh says:

Maybe that’s just what is needed. Current status quo sure not working too well

  19. Peaches says:

Why is no one picking up on the 800 pound gorilla in the room? “US Customs and Border Patrol agents are also assisting the BVI’s police with the investigations.” If the US authorities come to believe that the BVI is a conduit for drugs into the US, then they will be all over these islands and you can forget the easy access to St Thomas and BVI births in the US. The US is watching the BVIS closely and they are not to be f**ked with. Just ask Chump who will be cooling his heels in a federal penitentiary for a long time.

They must be held accountable: you are wrong. The US Drug Enforcement Agency would know if the governor and police commissioner are allegedly involved. Just ask Fahie his opinion on the matter.

Well, the territory is not doing very well with black islanders running the show, racism is destroying these islands. The net result is zero serious financial investment, past, current and future.

  23. Oh boy call the military says:

Yea call the military and when the UK military ship comes to pick up the drugs as it did they sail it away and “destroy” it at sea with the excuse its too much to destroy normally.

CMON! They are from the UK where they call the contraband stuff nose candy & somehow they all get a hold of it in the UK.

Do we really believe everything were told?

There’s a saying you dont put rats to guard cheese because they will eat it.

  24. @miss Bea & common sense says:

Look at the US DEA platform. They use active drug dealers as informants. Facts

They use drug laws for politically motivated invasions of South America & the Caribbean. Facts

They used it to justify the 20 year long war in Afghanistan, while protecting the poppy fields, killing tribal people and increasing global heroin production. Facts

Now the real afghans are back in power they’ve practically wiped out the poppy fields. Facts

The US & UK militaries combined did not, they wanted drug production to justify their nasty genocidal ways!

Recently 5 Caribbean nations where branded as Drug Producing nations by Joe Biden. To what purpose?

They dont care about drugs, the laws are about control & weaponized against who they choose.

They know the UK is filled with drugs as one of the biggest consumers and they can not touch the English.

Even if the nobles were snorting it up on camera the US DEA would ignore it, as their closest military ally they have a free pass.

Just look at that royal prince dude who got off scott free with his relationships with Epstein, and alleged relationships with underaged girls.

All he had to do was endure being banned from the family Christmas party like an animal and a few other minor inconveniences. His biggest sin seemed to be reputational damage to the Queen.

Before we know it he will be back in good grace.

The UK appointed governors & police chief must be held accountable by the people in the Virgin Islands not by the corrupt DEA from the corrupt United States.

Start talking independence and suddenly the BVI is considered drug lord ground zero. Suddenly Ex-governor jasper has info on high level drug dealing ?

Besides the corruption everyone whos been paying attention & read the affidavit is thinking the push for independence & fighting with the Ex-governor is what caused the Ex-premier to be set up by the US & UK. Targeted political assassination.

Then we had police chief whipping up a crime ridden recruitment video for foreign police to come work here… instead of making a video to attract new local officers.

  25. Dumb says:

The drug trade fuels our economy! Bottom line! Nobody likes to say it but it is what it is. Land get bought, money is splurged in the bars and restaurants and salons and car dealers. Jewelry stores make money. Even legitimate businesses get loaned money to keep them afloat. We do not use drugs here so our community is not affected by drug abuse. Only recently, the young drug runners have escalated the violence because the older ones died or gone quiet. The younger ones don’t understand their role and just interested in being flashy and killing each other. Not like shimmy the Juice n Bob them who were only interested in making money together and helping the community and staying somewhat low key. That drug money used to circulate nice in the economy. We don’t have no problem with the drug trade once these dumb young drug runners hold down the public shootings for simple lil disrespect or because somebody lost a few dollars. It got more money to make and the community and economy needs you guys. Hold down the violence and do your hustle. Remember there is a difference between committing a crime and committing a sin! Drug running is not a sin against God!
