Duncan notes: Completely different set of skills
Governor John Duncan has welcomed the appointment of his successor Augustus ‘Gus’ Jaspert, adding that they both have major differences as it relates qualification.
The outgoing governor noted Governor Jaspert’s background in law enforcement.
It is the governor who has responsibility for the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force in the British Virgin Islands. The holder of that office is also jointly responsible for Her Majesty’s Prison.
Governor Duncan told BVI News Online that his successor is qualified for the job, which he will start officially in August.
“The new governor is a very capable – very experienced person [who has] very different experience to me. Not a diplomat, but someone who has experience in local government, in child protection, in the financial services. So it’s someone who comes with a completely different set of skills, and I think that is a really good person you’re gonna have taking you forward.”
Governor Jaspert has served in the United Kingdom Cabinet Office as Director of Security and Intelligence.
He is also a former member of the Royal College of Defence Studies.
He served Home Office as a former head of Drugs and Alcohol, as well as Head of Policing.
The incoming governor also worked as Private Secretary to the prime minister of Britain from 2007 to 2009.
