Electricity in most areas; water may return today
Premier Dr D Orlando Smith said electricity has been restored to most areas of the territory and water supply is expected to return to normal today, August 10.
He made the disclosure last evening after torrential rainfall four days ago resulted in widespread disruption to utilities.
In relation to water supply, Premier Smith stated that the government-owned Water and Sewerage Department is still assessing the network.
“As for now, the water distribution continues to be monitored closely. This will ensure that compromised areas of the network are remedied, thereby allowing only potable water to be distributed to our customers. This is important to ensure clean and safe reliable supply.”
“Restoration work is already at an advanced stage, and the water supply is expected to be back to normal by [today],” added Premier Smith.
He further stated that, in relation to electricity, fallen poles have been posing a challenge to persons employed to the
BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC).
“Power has been restored to most areas throughout the territory. BVI Electricity Corporation crews continue to work assiduously to ensure that the power is restored to the entire territory as soon as possible.”
“Access to areas where poles have fallen is the main area now to be addressed. As soon as the BVIEC teams can take care of these fallen poles, power will be restored to those affected areas,” Premier Smith further said.
