Emergency meeting called after Fahie’s arrest

Education Minister Dr Natalio Wheatley

Acting Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley has announced that there will be an emergency meeting between himself, Governor John Rankin and UK Overseas Territory Minister Amanda Milling tomorrow to discuss the circumstances surrounding Premier Andrew Fahie’s arrest this morning, April 28.

In an impromptu statement a short while ago, Dr Wheatley added that Attorney General Dawn Smith will also be present.

The Acting Premier said he along with other ministers of government have not spoken with the embattled Premier or BVI Ports Authority boss Mrs Oleanvine Maynard who was also arrested. However, he is calling on the people of the territory to afford them due process in the US Court of Law.

“I cannot comment further on the arrest as it is an active investigation, but I urge calm and patience. Regarding the Commissions of Inquiry report, the Governor has informed Cabinet that he will be publishing the report very soon,” Dr Wheatley said.

“There is no doubt that people will seek to read the report and view it in the context of the recent arrest. However, as the Governor has said, the two are not connected. I urge the public to read the report with an objective eye in terms of strengthening our system of government under a democratic framework as opposed to draconian methods that would set back the historical constitutional progress we have made as a people,” he added.

Dr Wheatley said his party remains committed to good governance. He also asked for prayers during this difficult time for the BVI’s First Lady Mrs Sheila Forbes-Fahie.

Dr Wheatley, in the meantime, will remain the Acting Premier for the foreseeable future.

Premier Fahie and Oleanvine Maynard [Managing Director of the BVI Ports Authority] were arrested in Miami by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration on alleged charges of conspiracy to import a controlled substance and money laundering.

Maynard’s son Kareem Maynard was arrested in connection with the case but not in Miami. The pair are set to appear in Miami Federal Court on April 29, 2022.

        Congratulations, Dr. Wheatley!

Certainly, this was not the way that we hoped you would have risen to the top, but it is what it is!

We do need your wise counsel to guide us through this mess!

        Again, congratulations!

The party is over. The constitution needs to be re-written. The British need to control our ports of entry including Customs and Immigration. The Police need to all be replaced. Most importantly we need a long term plan with a vision to educate our children and rebuild our infrastructure in a sustainable way.

First of all folks we needed to rename or leader something than Premier (a name reserved today for totalitarian leaders.) let’s agree on something that equates to humble leader.

    • MORE TO COME says:

While the arrest of the leader of the executive branch of the British Virgin Islands Government is a disturbing enough turn of events, the details of the affidavit suggest that corruption among public officials runs much deeper. Kadeem Maynard claimed to have at least two law enforcement officers on his payroll, and to have control over an unknown number of airport officials. The premier himself reportedly said that Government Official 1 has many “employers” – thought to be a reference to smugglers who pay that individual to allow them free reign. The federal government of the United States knows the identity of Government Official 1 in the British Virgin Islands.

      Proverbs 28:9-14

9He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law,
Even his prayer shall be abomination.

10Whoso causeth the righteous to go astray in an evil way, He shall fall himself into his own pit:
But the upright shall have good things in possession.

      11The rich man is wise in his own conceit;
But the poor that hath understanding searcheth him out.

12When righteous men do rejoice, there is great glory: But when the wicked rise, a man is hidden.

13He that covereth his sins shall not prosper:
But whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

    • O'Neal says:

Will Dawn Smith now prosecute the other parties mentioned in the inditement including the head of the airport, the Lebanese organization? Who is the African that Fahie owed money to that he needed to pay off for helping him with “political problems?”

What does she have to say about this tragedy?

  2. Time and twine says:

“Fahie agreed to allow the confidential source to use the ports to ship his cocaine,” according to the complaint, adding that he requested a $500,000 upfront payment in return.

The British Virgin Islands premier also requested help in paying down an $83,000 debt to a man in Senegal who had “fixed” some political issues for him, the complaint said.

And this didnt just happen out of the blue, “they” had to be involved with the cartels before cause you dont just jump up and make arrangements with the Sinaloa Cartel for $700,000….

  18. Darkness Must Come To Light says:

That’s the question there, “Who is Government Official 1?”
It got to be someone in Customs.
Maynard son Kadeem said to the Undercover Agent that he has 2 Law Enforcement Officers on his Payroll.
It cannot be an Immigration nor a Police Officer. More than likely it have to be Customs Officers becuz they would not search those containers with the drugs. They would let them go and they will seize 1 or 2 to make it look good.
Can u imagine that? I pray there’s more arrest coming.
Some of them involved have to be shitting in their pants.
How can a mother get involved with drugs with her son? The love of Money is the Root of all Evil.
Remember, everything thing only for a time. I’m not sorry for them at all, I’m sorry for the Country. What will become of us?

Government just need to stand down. What’s done is done! All of them, Wheatley included sat in a room and did nothing to stop Andrew from controlling all the major portfolios. All these educated people didn’t realize having no checks and balances on these things could be a problem.

Be grown for once and accept responsibility! Our four father worked to establish local government and all it resulted in is years of greed!!!

And of course the Premier was set up! You guys never watch any kind of crime tv to learn that a lot of it is based on the real world. Feds don’t come for you until they have gathered enough evidence. Andrew was so greedy he took the bate. I guess he was somehow untouchable. So greedy he went on government business in the United States to participate in a felony crime.

    Stand down VIP.

Having lived in Martinique for many years and seen the interaction with France, I would recommend a relationship like this with the UK. High standard of living, excellent healthcare, competent law and order and democratic representation in the overseeing country. Th Governor style relationship is archaic and colonial. The BVI should have better representation where it matters.

  32. Big Show says:

I had to come here with this because the yellow site censors everything you write about Head Coach and his VIP group but it’s over for the entire team. The game is over our eyes are wide open

To this joker that is Acting Premier now and continues to preach how far we came I want to remind him of how far we came. This was taken straight out of the COI report

Whilst a more permanent solution was investigated, temporary expedients to police and
prevent unlawful entrants by sea was considered and implemented. From 23 August 2020 to
22 January 2021, at a total cost of $2,040,000, two or three barges equipped with radar were
leased from a company called EZ Shipping Limited (“EZ Shipping”) and stationed off the coast
to track sea traffic and alert interceptors, thus deterring unlawful entry into the BVI

    That’s how far we came

For the want of power, you sat down in the House of Assembly along with your colleagues knowing what your leader was paying for this service, and allowed your boss to fool the people of the BVI with the amount of money he was paying his cousins for this service. A service We were offered free of charge by the UK Government. Today, you want us to rally behind your team. Are you for real? Now we really see how heartless you are and how less you think of us but I know what it is. Your education is getting the best of you but we wouldn’t allow it to take control of us we rebuke you in Jesus’ name, always remember darkness could only run until daylight catch it, and that’s where you are now

You guys sat and encouraged the appointment of his family Lake to boards The Speaker Sylvester his sister The Man of the Cloth, The Radar Barges. On top of that you guys continue to blame the pandemic for not getting things done but yet every time you convene Legco its to give Sheep a contract. How the pandemic never stopped that,

I do not support the direct rule but I support the entire VIP government leaving office immediately with instructions that none of them ever hold office again. You guys are the worst government ever total embarrassment its a shame

  33. lillian says:
