Endless chatter! Mitch slams ’no plan’ Premier

Turnbull.

Second District Representative Melvin ‘Mitch’ Turnbull has accused Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley of being all talk and insists that the Premier has no concrete plans to support his rhetoric.

Turnbull’s comments were made during a press conference hosted by the Opposition, in which he criticised the current state of governance in the territory, labelling the government as reactive rather than proactive.

“There is no plan for this territory,” Turnbull declared, expressing frustration over what he described as the Premier’s failure to provide a clear vision for various sectors of the economy. Turnbull said repeated requests for detailed tourism, infrastructure, education, and healthcare plans have gone unanswered. He pointed out that the Premier has consistently failed to act until pressured by the Opposition.

“If you don’t have a plan, you cannot execute and that’s where the mismanagement continues to come in,” Turnbull added.

One of Turnbull’s major points of contention was the lack of an economic plan. “This government has not had a plan for anything about this country’s benefits since 2019,” he remarked. Turnbull also highlighted the Premier’s recent mishandling of a public sector salary increase, which resulted in a $20 million miscalculation. The error, Turnbull noted, places a significant burden on the government’s resources and is just one example of financial mismanagement under the current administration.

Turnbull also criticised the Premier’s handling of agriculture. “There’s nothing happening and he continues to kill us and insult the people of the Virgin Islands’ intelligence with just this endless chatter. There is no plan that has come forward for agriculture. The Junior Minister for Agriculture said there is no plan,” Turnbull said.

He continued: “The only thing that there seems to be a plan for is partying and wasting the public’s funds and then trying to justify it.”

The Opposition is preparing to bring a motion of no confidence against Premier Wheatley’s government, a move that Turnbull believes is necessary to address the critical issues facing the territory. As Turnbull put it, “If you cannot lead, then the Opposition is here to remove you and replace you with leadership that will plan for the future of this territory.”

  1. Tired says:

What was his plan for the territory when he refused to merge with the NDP party. Did he think by having the people split the votes his party would win? Sometimes, we have to let our egos down and let common sense prevail. Let the Premier spew whatsoever hot air he wants to come out of his mouth. Just remember, YOUR ACTIONS PUT HIM THERE!

The talk should still be that YOU AND RONNIE are willing to let your egos rest and merge with the NDP to have a united opposition. Ronnie is not fit to be a premier and Lorna knew it. That was her only strife. What is the plan for the no confidence motion? What is the plan to garner the support of the ministers on the other side? What is the plan for what you hope the new government should look like?

Premier has no plans, he says. You have a plan? Strupes.

Not one of the governments we have had over the past 20 years had a plan for the economic development of these Islands. The next government will not have one either because they all cannot think ahead, It’s all a wait and see how we manage attitude.
