Everyone frustrated by poor gov’t communication

Flax-Charles

Former government minister Shereen Flax-Charles said Virgin Gorda and the other sister islands are not unique in the frustrations they face due to poor communication from government agencies.

Flax-Charles was speaking to ZBVI radio following recent complaints about the downed ambulance service on Virgin Gorda (VG). According to the Health Minister, the ambulance was taken out of service for routine maintenance.

However, Flax-Charles said this wasn’t communicated promptly.

“A lot of it is a lack of communication. If people know that something broke down or that something is going to happen, they will understand and make provisions. But the communication piece isn’t there. While the sister islands are at a disadvantage, the problem exists in Tortola as well,” Flax-Charles explained.

She added: “I think the entire territory is fed up because from what I am seeing it’s not only happening on Virgin Gorda. I get the calls on a regular basis from those on Tortola, I see it in chats where we have to make calls to try and help people who have water and electricity problems. Some government agencies are trying to do better with communication but when it comes to the Health authorities, I’m not sure what the issue is with the lack of communication.”

She called on health authorities to improve their communication with communities to keep people informed about services that affect their health.

In the meantime, Health Minister Vincent Wheatley sent an update to the VG community, explaining that “contingency measures were implemented to ensure uninterrupted emergency response capabilities” while the ambulance was out of service.

However, Flax-Charles urged the government to implement a formal protocol to serve the VG community when the main ambulance is unavailable.

“I have to commend the staff at the VG clinic, they do the best with what they have. There should be protocols in place to say what should happen when the ambulance is down. It should be automatic because we have been in this position before,” the former government minister said.

This woman stays silent for months on end, then appears and does a lot of shouting, and then disappears again. It was the same when she was in the HoA.
We have not heard from the other woman, the one in a hat, for a long time.

So here is the sleight of hand—like a magician pulling a rabbit from an empty hat. Their approach is not grounded in truth or necessity; it is a solution desperately hunting for a problem. And when none exists, they simply manufacture one. The latest fabrication? That the ambulance was out of service. But once that narrative was flatly debunked, here comes the real trick: not an apology, not an admission of error—no. Suddenly, the issue becomes how it was communicated. Do you see the shift?
But thank God, the people of Virgin Gorda are discerning. They see through this magic act . And while all this political theatre unfolds, not a single word has been said—not one—about the private practices bleeding the NHI dry, creating the very deficits that compromise the quality of healthcare for our people. And in that silence, it is clear exactly where her loyalties lie.

Sometimes we truly get what we deserve. Irvin Gorda knows the truth. Both ambulances were out of service. Shereen may have her way but the good district rep flat out lied but at the end of the day he will lie her way out of whenever he fails to deliver to the people . Doesn’t matter either way as win or lose he will take taxpayers money because of the Greedy Bill. For political expediency some of you will continue to back the Green Horse – until it kicks you in the a*** just like it did Shereen. Trouble is she believed they were the best thing since sliced bread …. Til she got kicked..
