Fahie frequently mentioned in Premier’s talks with UK officials

Disgraced former Premier, Andrew Fahie

Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley revealed that disgraced former Premier, Andrew Fahie was frequently mentioned during meetings with UK officials, including British Overseas Territories (OT) Minister Stephen Doughty, during his trip to London last week.

Premier Wheatley, along with Deputy Premier Lorna Smith and Governor Daniel Pruce, met with Minister Doughty during the week of September 9. The purpose of the visit was to discuss updates on the Commission of Inquiry (COI) reforms and to address the possibility of lifting the Order in Council, which threatens direct UK rule over the territory.

During a joint press conference with Deputy Premier Smith on Monday, September 16, Premier Wheatley was asked whether Fahie’s conviction came up in the discussions with UK officials. The Premier’s response indicated that the issue remains significant to the UK.

“At least three times in the meeting it was mentioned,” Dr. Wheatley told journalists. “The Deputy Premier and I made it extremely clear that it is a sad chapter in the history of the Virgin Islands, and of course, what has happened has happened in Miami.”

“It’s time for us now to look forward and move on,” the Premier added, with Deputy Premier Smith agreeing.

He did not disclose details on those discussions about Fahie.

Former Premier Fahie was sentenced to 11 years in prison by a Miami court in early August for conspiring to smuggle cocaine into the United States through Virgin Islands waters.

Fahie was arrested on April 28, 2022, at a Miami airport on charges of drug smuggling and money laundering, following a months-long undercover investigation conducted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in the BVI.

Unfortunately, he’ll be home soon, and once again gaze upon the picture this administration honors so prominently in the House of Assembly.

If this current group has their way, the BVI may well be an independent nation at that time too. So, who knows what honors will be bestowed upon their fallen hero!

This territory is now beyond frustrating!

Funny to see people talk bout white people as if they went through the American period of lynching, Jim Crow and Redlining. People talk bout white people as if the island isn’t majority Black and a form of the KKK exists. White people aren’t your enemy if your own people are ruining your country.

Stop talking nonsense, this victim mentality is just sad. Stop blaming the white man for all of BVI’s failures. Absolutely ridiculous and just shameful. You can lead a horse to the water, but you can’t make him drink right always always that’s the old saying. Stop with the nonsense

of current events is alive and well in UK politics despite the change of government in July.

Hypothetically the Order in Council could be enforced for 11 years from Nov’24. If the convicted Premier survives his incarceration then the Order would only be lifted IF he never returns to the BVI.

It seems as if there are many trips to the UK by the current government for meeting that does not appear to be that important and of course cost the BVI money that should be used to improve conditions at home. We live in an age of technology and in my opinion many of these meeting can be done by ZOOM saving the BVI much need money.

“… and of course, what has happened has happened in Miami.”

Nobody wants to mention that the crimes occurred right here at home.

Fahie and the Maynards were conspiring on BVI land, and this certainly calls into question why have charges not been brought for at the very least malfeasance in office and criminal conspiracy right here in the BVI?

As soon as he was arrested, they were to suspend and take over. Thats like 2 or more years ago. The place would have been in a better state, New elections ready for our own to take it back. We are sinking slowly.

  20. @Britain failed us. says:

Thats like 2 or more years ago. The place would have been in a better state,”

Yes agreed 100%. The place would be in a better state of being, the economy and business would be in a better state, in British Hands and political policy rooms. Then the local way, life and current state of being would be taken kack 400 years immediately.

Anyone modern race who dismisses History is bound to repeat it.

At the current rate of legislative governance, the process has already began. The Virgin Islander way of life and status will soon approach that of the Aborigine of Australia.

History does not favor or lie. It speaks truth, even to tothose who seem to deny it with thumbs. down indication low intelligence.

I prefer the white man 1000 percent. All black men have been doing is shutting doors on their own. The only time you see a change in BVI is when the white men do it. Look how long East End road@ has been in such a deplorable state. Look how long it took to give the workers a raise. If it were not for the white men, we would be in shit whole. You can’t fool me. Blacks used to sell their own to the white as slavese. So, who is to blame? Help has come, so you better accept it.
