Former Premier Fahie requests further postponement of trial

Disgraced former Premier, Andrew Fahie.

Former Premier Andrew Fahie, through his attorney Theresa Van Vliet, has requested that his trial be reset to May 8, 2023.

This is the second request by Fahie for a postponement of his trial. His initial July 2022 trial date was first changed and reset to January 17, 2023, after new evidence was introduced.

A second trial date was then set for January 9, 2023, but in a new document seen by this news site, the new motion presented by Fahie’s team was unopposed by prosecutors when it was made before a Miami court today, November 28, 2022.

The new trial date request comes on the heels of racketeering charges being levelled against the former premier and his co-accused Oleanvine Maynard and her son, Kadeem Maynard.

BVI News will provide more details on this story.

Ain’t there any more pressing issues in the Virgin Islands to report on? It’s already sad, shameful and depressing the situation Fahie has found himself in. Can We hear or read about the Economy or the Territory’s Infrastructure.

    Dear Mr/Madam Editor

I am not defending Andrew Fahie but is it really necessary to continue labeling him as the ‘disgraced former Premier’? By now we all know the back story. He is facing the courts and his guilt or innocence will be determined there, he has resigned so what more do you want.
Enough of the sensationalism now, just report on the facts, like what are the reasons for the postponement.

    Ok then.

Mr Fahie your previous requests have netted you the good fortune of spending the holidays with your family. Time to face the music. Face the inevitable and get it over with sooner rather than later.

His team needs all the time possible to prepare his defense given the addition of the RICO charge.

Since the other defendants were to be tried simultaneously, the question is will their trials be delayed also should the court grant this extension.

Anyway, this has to be a nightmare for them. Now don’t misinterpret the sentiment I am about to express as I am not one to condone crime or their alleged crimes. Should they be convicted and needs to do time, so be it.

However, knowing the people involved and being a person of faith complicates my emotions, but not to the point of condoning their alleged criminal actions, but as a human being.

Despite the gravity of the accusations, and what I believe will be a difficult legal road ahead for all three defendants, I do have some empathy for them given my understanding of the US legal system and what they are up against.

My thoughts sometimes drift to the former Ports’ Director specifically as I know her since we were young and attended the same church. I do wish this was not her reality, but it is what it is.

It must be very difficult for her to be in the position she finds herself along with her son, and I am certain they are all filled with regrets.

While the former Premier can breathe a little easier temporarily under house arrest, she remains in a Miami detention center known to be one of the toughest jails in America. Reportedly, it is not easy in there.

We don’t hear much about her plight, and it appears based on news reports that she is all but forgotten. Again, please dont beat up on me for my honest thoughts. I am not on a sympathy parade.

Anyway, despite the damage done to this country by their alleged actions, I do wish them the best defense they can get. Let the chips fall where they may.

Ill say this in final: Before their trial begins, I personally have forgiveness all three of the accused regardless of the outcome of their cases. It serves me no good to trash them. I hope they get a fair trial.

Forgiveness is not new to me. My childhood friend migrated to Texas and got themselves in trouble with the law. They were convicted of serious crimes and spent 20 years in prison while I was simultaneously on the academic and professional path. Our lives had diverged, but not forever.

Whatever crimes he committed, I forgive him too. When they got out of prison, and was jobless and in transition, I helped them out financially until they got back on their feet. They has leant from their past, and has moved on with life inclusive of my friendship.

One day these folks will come home. I trust that as the Christian Society we purport to be that we can find forgiveness within our hearts for them as well.

We can forgive without condoning their alleged wrong doings. It may be a bit too early for some of you to do so, but I hope many of you who are particularly vocal about this case can get there along with me.

As I survey the landscape of the BVI, I see a country that is unrecognizable to the one I grew up in. Too much hatred towards each other and division among the populace that is in dire need of healing and forgiveness.

Let us all learn from these three in terms of what is right vs wrong. What is acceptable behavior for trusted government or public officials. Let us become better people because of it.

It is amazing how this bias news site and their few bloggers who blog over and over and over again has pronounced Myron innocent until proven guilty but pronouncing fahie guilty with no chance of being innocent. A set of hypocrites.

You could really compare Fahie situation to the obvious witch hunt of Myron? Have you read the allegations against Fahie? Cocaine, gun running, racketeering not to mention the witch craft? They trying to stitch up Myron so that he wouldn’t run for elections on procedural matters with a project. Not theft. Not fraud but procedure. Pure nonsense! This is chalk and cheese.
Nonetheless, there must always be the presumption of innocence over guilt regardless of the individual.

What is there to like about him, he helped you one time and you’re basing that on his character… good people don’t be preaching, playing Sunday organ and fake crying to god then deal cocaine and bribery for personal gain. He sits and make laws for people like you to have a hard time without his help. Single handedly brought the BVI in a bad spot with the COI his government and members were destroying the tourism economy and giving away money to their farmers and fisherfolk what about the rest of us?

I’m sure he is but I’m not the one to make
that judgement and neither is this website.

  27. Popeye says:

The facts in this matter are well established and documented with audio and video recordings. Since the crimes were also committed here in the BVI, why haven’t they been charged here? Don’t we have laws prohibiting public officials from engaging in corrupt activities? Why can’t we try them and those who assisted them and then seize all of their property as as lesson to others. Why hasn’t GOVT official #1 and the “Hezballah” been rounded up?
