Garbage truck snag causes power outage, disruptions in Baughers Bay
A garbage truck in Baugher’s Bay inadvertently knocked down four utility poles on Monday afternoon after becoming entangled in low-hanging wires during a scheduled pickup.
The incident caused a power outage and led to traffic congestion in the area.
Reports indicate that the wires snagged by the truck were connected to telecommunications providers servicing the community.
Utility workers from the BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) responded to the scene and announced plans to replace the fallen poles that same afternoon. BVIEC stated they anticipated restoring electricity to the area by the end of the night.
Representatives from the two local telecommunications companies were also on-site, collaborating with BVIEC. However, they noted that their part of the work would not be completed until the following day, as they depended on BVIEC to finish its restoration efforts.
As of the publication time, BVI News was unable to confirm whether power had been fully restored to the community.
