Gov’t honours 700 staff for dedicated service

Governor Daniel Pruce hands over a certificate for years of service to this public officer.

More than 700 public officers were recently celebrated for their years of service during the Public Service Employee Recognition Ceremony in November.

The event, held as part of Public Service Week, recognised the hard work and dedication of officers who have served for 10, 20, and 30 years.

The Office of the Deputy Governor organised the ceremony in collaboration with the Department of Human Resources. Public officers received certificates and tokens of appreciation to honour their contributions to the development of the Virgin Islands.

Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Deputy Governor, Sharleen DaBreo-Lettsome, addressed the officers, reminding them of their essential role in the territory’s progress.

“I promise you this, every time you clock into work, every stroke of pen, every day you turn your computer on and every meeting, lays the blocks for the development of the Virgin Islands we envision,” DaBreo-Lettsome said. “The Virgin Islands we want to see for our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren starts with you.”

The event celebrated public officers who have shown long-term commitment and professionalism in their various roles. It also highlighted the importance of recognising the workforce that keeps the public service running efficiently.

Public Service Week is a significant annual tradition in the Virgin Islands. It not only honours the contributions of dedicated public servants but also fosters camaraderie and morale within the public sector. Over the years, these events have motivated employees to maintain excellence and commitment in their roles.

The recognition ceremony comes at a time when the government continues to emphasise improving the efficiency and output of the public service, with initiatives that reflect the administration’s efforts to encourage pride, hard work, and dedication among public officers.

The Office of the Deputy Governor expressed gratitude to all honourees for their years of loyal service, acknowledging their role in building a better Virgin Islands.
