With the COVID-19 pandemic affecting regular operational hours in the British Virgin Islands, government is now accepting payments for services via remote processing.
The Office of the Premier said in a media release on Tuesday that the remote payment options will allow for the receipt of payments while protecting both the customers and public officers from COVID-19.
Acting Accountant General Laurel Smith outlined the options available and the requirement needed to ensure successful processing of all payments.
She said: “Customers can email their credit or debit card information along with an authorisation form and a valid form of identification to the department for processing of payment.”
“If the credit/debit card holder is not the individual completing the authorisation form, a letter authorising the use of the card must be submitted from the card holder,” Smith added.
Additionally, customers will also have the option of paying fees through wire transfer by crediting government’s operating account at CIBC First Caribbean International Bank. Once completed the funds will be received by the intended relevant department.
The Office of the Premier also said government is presently working on e-Government legislation which will guide the policy and framework for accepting payments online.
