Gov’t officials meet to discuss policy implementation
Government ministers and senior officials recently met to discuss implementing key legislative measures and strategic plans for the Virgin Islands.
The meeting brought together ministers, permanent secretaries, and department heads to review policies and align government priorities with national development goals.
“As we move forward, it is essential that we work collaboratively to ensure that the Virgin Islands continues to grow and thrive,” Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley said. “This meeting is just one of many steps in ensuring that we are aligning our policies with the needs of our people, and that we are working together to create a prosperous future for all.”
The session opened with a presentation on the Public Service Management Act (PSMA) 2024, which aims to enhance efficiency and accountability within the public sector. Officials discussed its management and administration, focusing on streamlining government operations.
The discussions also centred on aligning ministry priorities with the National Sustainable Development Plan (NSDP), a framework that sets out goals for governance, planning, budgeting, and reporting.
“We are committed to advancing the development, welfare, and prosperity of the territory through effective governance, transparent policies, and sustainable growth,” a government statement said.
The government has faced scrutiny over the implementation of policies in recent months, with Premier Wheatley previously calling for an urgent review of delays in executing Cabinet decisions. He has also engaged the governor’s office to assess inefficiencies affecting major government projects.
The meeting was part of ongoing efforts to improve coordination across ministries and ensure policies are effectively translated into action.

This is the very problem that frustrates everyone with every Gov’t office. Policies seem to trump laws, and each department seems to have varying policies that often are arbitrarly implemented with varying vindictivness to those that are there to help you regarding who they may like or dislike.
Laws are what dictate this land, not random policies that vary based on the moods of civil servant.
Are never, ever enforced! The continued mismanagement of the public sector is due to inefficient leadership.
Just look at HOA & Cabinet decisions! This is the weakest I have ever seen the BVI Government in all my years home!
Well said Salty Fish. VI is not run on laws but arbitrary policies and ideas that know one knows what they are.
Try implementing these policies, one to see to it that the people of the BVI have water. One for the roads to make sure, and one to deal with our garbage, I can go on and on but as we know that’s a waste of time
