Gov’t ‘on the verge’ of EE/LL sewage connection – Rymer
After more than two decades of delays, the government says it is “on the verge” of completing long-awaited sewage connections for East End and Long Look residents.
Speaking during the Virgin Islands Voice broadcast, Minister of Communications and Works Kye Rymer said residents will soon be invited to sign up for the service as the key infrastructure is nearing readiness.
“Within, I would say, between now and a couple of weeks, we will be commissioning the Paraquita Bay wastewater treatment plant,” Rymer stated. “A few months after that, we will be commissioning the Long Swamp lift station.”
Rymer explained that once these components are operational, sewage from the East End and Long Look areas will be pumped to the treatment plant at Paraquita Bay, marking a major milestone for the territory.
“We want their sewage and we want them to be… connected to the system,” he said, noting that public meetings will be held soon to guide residents through the connection process. The ministry plans to provide contact details and application instructions in the coming weeks.
The project has been long in the making, with Third District Representative Julian Fraser pointing out that the initiative began over 20 years ago.
“Twenty-three years ago, I started that project,” Fraser recalled. “From that time on, no one has been able to finish this project… But this is a milestone for the government and the people of the East End/Long Look area.”
Rymer said the completion of the Paraquita Bay plant and the Long Swamp station will finally allow the system to function as originally designed. He added that lateral connections to homes will be made, ensuring that households can tie into the central sewer system.
The East End/Long Look Sewage Project has been delayed by funding gaps, design changes, and challenges with land access. Calls from the community for proper sewage management have intensified over the years due to public health concerns and environmental impact.
Rymer also confirmed that his ministry remains committed to completing related sewage projects in other areas, such as Cane Garden Bay and the now-operational Burt Point plant.
“We are quite happy about that,” Rymer said. “We are committed to it, and we are on the verge of being able to flush in the East End/Long Look area.”

Well its about darm time
Where the money coming from? They going to apply a bandage or some of the 100 million that was for roads. The A$$C!0wn Brigade on full fisplay
Didn’t they have the money years ago but it was forcibly re-directed to finish the pier park?
wasn’t it a great opportunity to get it online with those non farmers and non fishermen payouts? Let’s not bring in the kartel show. Also haven’t funds spent from the sewerage fund been returned to central government? where is it? You all need to stop it.
It is really difficult to refer to some of these people as honorable anything. Mr. Fraser says HE STARTED THIS PROJECT!! Are you kidding me? The NDP started that program. It was going along fine until they lost the next election and Fraser took over again as Min. of C&W and fired everyone who was on that job. He had a * one for the Project Manager because he didn’t like how much the man was being paid. He didn’t take up that project again until the next election and gave the project to a party backer who then would have had to bring in people from the U.S. They VIP lost that election and of course NDP had other priorities like the Pier Park and the good people of EE/LL went through the eddoes. It’s really interesting how NDP had the Deputy Premier and top level members who reside in that district and still the long suffering taxpayers in that area got no respect at all. Sickening how these “honorables” are so dishonarable as to be like eating way too much sugar or drinking too much and throwing up your guts. Good luck to the people of EE/LL. Crying shame and BS on the “honorables” over the years who allowed “their people” to suffer.
S#it travels downhill they can’t even get that right 25 years and now we’re nearly there , just another couple of years no doubt. I’ll expect a grand opening a golden throne and live cam as long as the water is on for a good flush?
taking one for the non-verbal one. do as much as you all can but it will not make a difference.
20 Years!!!!
You should give yourselves a big pat on the back and think about embarking on a big project like an airport as soon as possible.
Should be ready by 3025.
In the meantime can we work on the West End Ferry Terminal and get in that in place maybe for 2045, so people can get on and out of BVI in the meantime and perhaps get a proper ferry timerable for 2035 so we don’t always have to overnight in St Thomas. Pretty much actually the only reason why we might ever have needed a longer runway anyway. For want of one extra ferry a day late in the evening. No many kickbacks available from that unfortunatley to make it viable
Anyway, That should get us going in the right direction for Independence in around about 200 years.
Thanks.
