Guns found after hooded men elude police near prison

Not the actual guns mentioned in the story.

Police discovered a number of guns near His Majesty‘s Prison at Balsum Ghut after a group of hooded men managed to escape their clutches late last week.

Officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) said as they conducted patrols in the Lambert Estate area, they observed three males dressed in hoodies and behaving suspiciously while heading in the direction of His Majesty’s Prison.

Police said the trio fled on foot after they observed the officers and managed to successfully evade the lawmen following a chase. One of the men reportedly dropped a bag during the chase and police said it contained three firearms – one semi-automatic weapon and two pistols.

The discarded weapons were discovered just one day after police arrested and charged three men in relation to the discovery of a quantity of ammunition after they received reports of men carrying firearms in Road Town.

The RVIPF said the recent recovery brings the total number of firearms seized in September to five.

The police further noted that they remain resolute in their commitment to recovering illegal firearms and apprehending individuals found in possession of such weapons.

Persons with information regarding the possible identity of the three males are being asked to contact the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 284-368-9339. Police said all information will be held in the strictest of confidence.

RBVIPF needs some healthy bush running individuals who can track and rundown escaping suspects on foot. Alternatively use infrared drones to track the suspects and trap them.
