Health issue preventing Flax-Charles from taking vaccine now

Government legislator, Shereen Flax Charles.

Government legislator Shereen Flax has indicated that a current “health issue” has so far prevented her from taking the AstraZeneca vaccine for COVID-19.

Flax-Charles — who has been one of government’s advocates of vaccination — gave that indication on the Virgin Islands Party’s (VIP) Let’s Talk radio show Tuesday night when asked to publicly declare whether she has taken the jab.

In response, the first-term legislator said she tried to take the vaccine on three occasions but said “it was not possible”.

“I don’t want anybody to think that I have a crazy, serious health issue. It’s not that,” Flax-Charles said, adding that she will not be bullied into taking the jab until she medically cleared to do so.

“It is a private decision of anyone. But I will also say that there are issues surrounding the fact why I have not been able to take the vaccine yet. I intend to take it. However, I will not allow anyone or anybody to force me to do so until it is clear that the repercussions will be in my favour health-wise,” the VIP legislator said.

She added: “You must appreciate the fact that there are some persons that may not be able to take it on the advice of their health provider. So what I would say to persons; if you are sceptical, check it out.”

The government has promised to relax some of its COVID-19 restrictions when more of the population vaccinates.

Yet they want to thump me or anyone down who also got health issues that stopping us from taking the jab as well, creating all kinds of manufactured scenarios to force you into that needle before your time.

It’s alright, though. I’ll take it when I got the specific vaccine package I want, same way she’ll take it when her health permits. Don’t let anybody rush you, people. This is a big step.

The long explanation wasn’t necessary,, Simply say it’s a personal issue she doesn’t want to discuss at this time, leave it at that, she bla bla too much,,,,I am not for vaccine but I took the shot just for the country to help us put things back to some kind of normalcy,,too much suffering In the land,,, She is expected to be more strategic and tactful than that,,, she actually undermine her government efforts,

All we ask is that Minister Charles does what is best for the country not just herself. If she chooses not to take the vaccine then she is putting the community more at risk. If she has been advised by her doctor not to take it at this time that is a different story…. isn’t pregnancy a reason for not taking the vaccine?

Ma’am you don’t have to explain anything to anybody. Vaccines are not mandatory and if you do choose not to take it that is up to you just like it is optional for every other citizen.

It’s going to be like smoking. You can choose to continue to smoke but they won’t let you do it in restaurants, bars, offices, planes etc and you are increasing your risk of serious disease.

It will be the same if you stay unvaccinated.

  9. Personal Choice says:

It is every person’s personal choice whether they decide to take the vaccine and no-one else is entitled to know whether you have taken it or not. Fed up of the vaccine shaming going on here. Yes there are very good reasons to take it, but nobody should be forced or made to feel bad for their decision.

Like it or not , tourists are going to go to safe countries and stay at places where all staff are vaccinated. Already Barbados hotels are advertising that all staff are vaccinated.
