Health Minister should be fired — Walwyn

Health Minister Vincent Wheatley

Weeks after Health Minister Vincent Wheatley asked BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) Chairman Ron Potter to resign, Sixth District Representative Myron Walwyn suggested that Wheatley should be removed from office instead.

Speaking in the House of Assembly yesterday, Walwyn criticised Wheatley’s handling of the health sector, particularly concerning the state of healthcare on the sister islands and the lack of proper equipment and staffing. He argued that the minister’s failure to manage critical health services effectively warrants his dismissal.

Walwyn was especially upset about the recent closure of the Nurse Iris O’Neal Clinic in Virgin Gorda, a situation he deemed inexcusable, particularly since Wheatley represents the island in the House of Assembly. He expressed disbelief that the clinics were left without electricity and criticized the Minister for not intervening.

“You’re the Minister of Health, and the hospital is closed in Virgin Gorda. And you’re the Minister of Health, and you ain’t know and you ain’t do nothing about it. But who needs to get fired? If anybody should be fired, it’s the Minister,” Walwyn said during his address.

Additionally, Walwyn raised concerns about the recent resignation request sent to BVIHSA Chairman Potter via WhatsApp. He criticized how this was handled, questioning Wheatley’s leadership and calling for proper governance standards. He further compared Wheatley’s actions to the Premier’s recent budget mismanagement, noting the double standards in how both situations were treated.

“It is ironic that the minister now is calling for the head of the chairmanship of the board,” Walwyn said. “But when the Premier made his $20 million snafu, and I raised the matter and said he should resign, he was the first one that got up and said resign for what? But now you want to kill Ron? You think Ron is a cashew without a nut?”

He continued: “And then, to go send a professional man a WhatsApp to tell him resign. By WhatsApp? That is what the country is coming to. And that is why I want to see standards. Standards in these documents, so that you would know where your power starts and where your power ends.”

Walwyn also emphasized broader issues within the BVI’s healthcare system, such as the inadequate number of nurses, outdated dialysis machines, and a lack of proper resources. He stated that residents deserve better, and it is the government’s responsibility to ensure that health services are well-funded and functional.

BVI POLITRICKS where and absolute tool like Vincent can get elected but a man like Farrara could never win an election. Dummies get elected and brilliant people don’t. Go figure LOL popularity contest.

I must have missed the news that Hon. Farrara had taken his ideas to the public for judgment at the polls. Yet, I do recall that Hon. V. Wheatley was duly elected, as per the usual mechanics of democratic society. But of course, for some, the will of the people seems an inconvenience to be dismissed in favor of their presumed intellectual superiority. Perhaps there is a term for governance where a single individual dictates what is best for the public—though, I imagine, when the favored figure finds themselves under criticism, we’ll see a miraculous shifting of standards. That, after all, is the stock-in-trade of hypocrisy.

Dunce like to be led by DUNCE that’s why Andrew try selling dope. People like Vincent in government man UK will never lift that COI.

        • Service to territory says:

To the best of my recollection, Hon. V. Wheatley served honorably as a teacher for many years in this territory. It appears that, for some, emotional entanglement renders it difficult to acknowledge this fact with the objectivity that any mature analysis requires. One must note that teaching, a profession held by nearly 80% of the territory’s premiers, is a vocation rooted in discipline and service to the public. Yet, for those unable to extricate themselves from their feelings, it seems we are asking too much to expect the emotional intelligence necessary to separate personal sentiment from factual assessment.

Teach with what? An associates degree? Or because he knew a little bit more than the average VG dunce. Man going send text to an accomplished more educated man talking bout resign? What kind of bush league classless act was that. He must’ve been raised by wolves or in this case goat and cow.

    • Memories Short says:

Don’t forget we had the biggest and the brightest running the country and they were worst. $7M on an invisible plane. Give the government a chance to get things running. A lot a time and resources have been taken up with the COI.

  2. Styles. says:

    Agree.

Vincent should be fired, he is incompetent and is not handling the health sector properly. Also, the audit report shows he gave money to friends and family in his previous ministers post.

    Also.

Walwyn should be fired from his position if and when he gets put in jail when his case comes in front of the courts.

It must be deeply frustrating for those like yourself, repeating the same accusations for almost four years with no concrete evidence to back them up. Perhaps the reason no wrongdoing has been found by the Commission of Inquiry is that there isn’t any to find. Yet, even without proof, I suspect you’ll just shift to a new target. This isn’t about facts; it’s about an emotional commitment to a narrative that disregards objectivity and intellectual honesty.

I firmly believe in the saying “Elections have consequences”. This has been the ABSOLUTE WORST GOVERNMENT that I have seen in my short 30yrs of existing. We have a bunch of incompetent people running the Government. These people don’t even know how to balance a budget for a candy store, must less run the Territory. We need to start electing people with at least half a brain

“We have a bunch of incompetent, inept,” ineffective, greenbacks hounds running this and prior Governments.

Imagine, a man can say if elected he will do as the previous ones had did with pride, honoring those past leaders presumeably for unsavory financial practices.

Then an organized gang took power with X in it, where Y and zand were decidedly elected.

What shall the voter do, turn around and have confidence in those x,y, and z’s, compounded upon the recent narcotic scandal?

What do you think the current government would do,? the school children was asked.

  10. Stuck On Stupid says:

This is not going to get better anytime soon these people are operating on a twisted sense of reality and morality. They are stuck in the paradigm of a religious belief that was cunningly crafted to achieve the subjugation of all indigenous peoples. Any knowledge outside of the religious cannon is immediately rejected without any research or scrutiny. The term “A** Clown Brigade” is perfect for those stuck on stupid running things to a wreck.

  11. Webster says:

…Minister Wheatley needs to step down from that post.

If this was any other Caribbean country, his resignation would have been called for and the pressure would have been on him until he did so. What happened in Virgin Gorda where that gentleman died for the want of medical attention is an extremely serious matter.
Head(s) should roll, but not that of the Chairman of the HSA Board.

    • yes you are right says:

Ah yes, of course. The individuals charged with the day-to-day operations of the hospital should remain utterly beyond reproach. Accountability, after all, is such an outdated concept. This certainly helps explain how we’ve arrived at our current state of disarray—where mediocrity reigns unchecked. But no worries, let’s continue directing the blame elsewhere, far removed from where it truly belongs. After all, when one is friends with someone, objectivity naturally goes out the window, doesn’t it?

    • @Webster says:

Name the Caribbean country, if you really believe that.

  12. @ STYLES & STUCK ON STUPID says:

and he thinks he has gotten us fooled with his racially motivated rhetoric , that he has been spewing out daily ( some say it’s his overgrown EGO that’s in control of his narcissistic mind only prayers can help him

    • Wigged out says:

I assure you I am not the so called wigged one. However Credit must be given where it’s due—he’s proved himself to be politically shrewd. After facing an onslaught of allegations and what some would call a political “witch hunt,” he has managed to avoid any significant fallout. That, in itself, is no small feat.
What’s even more significant is how these so-called attacks only solidify his support base, particularly in D3, where the electorate has shown a history of long-term loyalty. Like Hon. Fraser and Hon. Cills before him, the “wigged one” is set to ride this wave of loyalty for years to come. It’s this enduring support from the voters, more than anything, that may frustrate his detractors the most.
