Here’s how power restoration is going
The BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) has provided an update on the areas where electricity has been partially restored.
In an August 20 update, the BVIEC acknowledged that some locations within these areas, including Fat Hogs Bay, Chalwell Estate, and Cane Garden Bay, are still without power.
The BVIEC stated that its teams are assessing individual faults in the network, prioritising safety and infrastructural requirements. The public is encouraged to report any high-risk concerns to the Emergency Call Centre.
The corporation initially focused on restoring main feeder lines before addressing individual homes, which explains why some residences in the same areas have power while others do not.
Residents in areas where power has been restored are asked to contact the BVIEC at 284-852-4600 if they are still without electricity.
The BVIEC dispatched teams to additional areas such as Apple Bay, Sea Cows Bay, Beef Island, George’s Hollow, Free Bottom,
Baughers Bay, Purcell, Huntum’s Ghut, Fish Bay, Lower Estate, and McNamara on August 20, and are currently working in Purcell, according to their latest update.
Additionally, the corporation expressed gratitude to its Transmission and Distribution Team and the Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Service for extinguishing a fire in the George’s Hollow area late on August 19.
The BVIEC continues to work actively to fully restore electricity across the territory following the passage of Tropical Storm Ernesto on August 13. They also confirmed that power has been 100% restored on Sister Island Virgin Gorda.

Wow. Not one to criticise BVIEC but something up in Paradise if it takes this long to fix a storm we already know is coming and will be coming again. They not thought about that?
WE ALL KNOW THE LINESMEN ARE DOING A GREAT JOB. BUT THIS IS NOT ABOUT THEM . ITS ABOUT RESELIENCE – IF SYSTREM WERE IN PLACE, A STORM LIKE WHAT WE EXPERIECE SHOULD HAVE NEVER DAMAGE SO MANY LINES.
ITS SIMPLE PHYSICS . THESE LINES ARE DESIGN FOR 100 MPH WIND BUT 100 MPH WIND WITH AN EXTERNAL FORCE ITS A DIFFRENT OUTCOME. THE EXTERNAL FORCE IS THE OVERGROWN TREES AND TREE BRANCHES.
WE WILL HAVE MORE HURRICANE AND STOEMS AND EEVN STRONGER. HOW WE GOING TO LITIGATE POWER SUPPLY RESELIENCE ITS UP TO OUR ELECTED OFFICIAL WHO AT THIS POINT ARE UNINTELEGABLE ABOUT SIMPLE PHYSICS.
