The Dominican Republic duo held at the Beef Island airport with fake BVI visas and Labour documents last week has been sentenced on Thursday to three months at Her Majesty’s Prison.

Magistrate Shawn Innocent also fined the Spanish-speaking offenders – Edward Jesismar Carmano Ortiz and Mady Miguelina Marte Rodriguez – $500 which is to be paid forthwith.

If the fine is not paid, they will spend an additional 30 days in prison.

The duo has been in and out of court before different magistrates on number occasions on account of being given erroneous charges for the same offence.

Meanwhile, the court was told that the Hispanic offenders took out $5,000 mortgages on their family homes in the Dominican Republic to fund their purchase of the fake visas and Labour clearance documents.

They claimed to be unaware that the documents were counterfeit.

The authorities need to take these fake docs seriously. Dominicans have a culture of buying fake docs. Those two persons knew they were buying fake docs. That is the way they like to do busy in DR, and they rather pay than to go thru the process.
Send them a clear message of jail time. Give them a reduce sentence if they give up the names of the people propagating it here and in the DR.

I’m thinking that they must have had local assistance in acquiring those fake visas and labour clearance.
