HLSCC signs MOU for all top students to get scholarships to US university

Top-performing graduates from the H Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) will soon be eligible for financial scholarships at Johnson and Wales University (JWU) in the United States.

HLSCC’s President Judith Vanterpool said this is one of the benefits that the institution will see with the newly-formed alliance with the university.

“I am excited to announce today that HLSCC has signed a soft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU),” Vanterpool said at the college’s latest graduation ceremony on Thursday. “I say soft because we will have a bigger ceremony when the final MoU will be signed next semester.”

She continued: “The agreement with Johnson and Wales guarantees admission for every HLSCC graduate with financial scholarships for students who have maintained a GPA of 2.5 or above. So you have to work for it.”

Vanterpool also mentioned that, with the help of the university, the college will be revitalizing and developing its hospitality programme and refreshing its entire curriculum, “to ensure that it meets the highest international standards”.

More about JWU

The university’s website indicates that JWU is a private, nonprofit educational institution founded in 1914.

It has four campuses located in Providence, Rhode Island; North Miami, Florida; Denver, Colorado; and Charlotte in North Carolina.

JWU offers degree programmes in the arts and sciences, business, culinary arts, design and engineering, education, health and wellness, hospitality, nutrition and physician assistant studies.

It is also said to be accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education.

Why is it that the Territory can’t keep their offspring home and educate them. Why do you send them to the US. You all hate the US and the U.K. You all spout off at every chance about the evil of these countries and how wonderful Africa is. So why don’t you hook up with an African school and leave US schools for US citizens. Also stop birthing your offspring in the US. You don’t want US and U.K. citizens to become citizens of the BVI. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. Stay home!!!!

Life must be bitter for you to respond so negatively to a story on education. Everything is now a you against us conversation based on your flawed judgment. Stop reading BVI News if you not interested in the BVI. Read your country island’s paper. Stop spreading hate because you cant get your own way.

I choose.to look on the bright side and welcome this opportunity for BVIslanders abroad. Make use of this and return home to keep the BVI Great.

So you apparently think it’s ok to have your offspring in the US, then when they reach University age send them with their US passports to a school in the US, ask for financial aid since they show no income in the US, get a free education and then move back to the BVI and live and work. This is your answer? So once again the African lives like a ramora fish off of others. Provide an educational system in the BVI and keep your people there. Last, under US law, everyone that has US citizenship is required to pay US taxes. All of you that have US citizenship and living in the BVI AS BELONGERS ARE BREAKING US LAW. This will eventually catch up to all of you.

After taxes are paid in the dual country, nhi & social security persons with our poor people income level do not need to pay U.S taxes on top of that.

If you choose to become a US citizen then you are required to abide by US laws. You expect the same of those living within the Territory. Failure to file a US Federal Income Tax return is a federal offense punishable by fine and/or imprisonment. Take the good with the bad or just stay home.

Humm… this can be a good and a bad think. Be careful because you want to bring in outsiders to develop a hospitality program when you all had a fantastic one already that produced Stella performers and you all of a sudden don’t want to continue on that path. The question is why? Is our BVISLANDER who have already proven themselves single handily not good enough any more? We really should treat our people better.
