Hodge breaks 200m meet record at New Balance Outdoor event

Adaejah Hodge broke yet another record while securing the 2023 200-metre indoor and outdoor sprint double for the New Balance Nationals over the weekend.

The local sprint sensation, who represented Monteverde Academy, clocked 22.64 seconds to finish ahead of Canes’ Madison Whyte (22.94) and Spring Grove’s Laila Campbell (23.26) in the Outdoor Championship Girls 200m Final yesterday, June 18.

Earlier in the year, Hodge also finished ahead of Whyte in 22.33 to set a new national record as she won the 200m New Balance Nationals Indoor Championship.

Speaking after the win, Hodge said she had a sleepless night ahead of the race but was hoping for the best as she came in to run the race.

“My race strategy was to run the heck out of the curve and to try to hold on and bring it home and I did that,” Hodge told MileSplit while reflecting on her victory.

She added that there was some pressure to win ahead of the race knowing the level of competition against her. However, she said she persevered while remembering to trust her training and abilities as well as her coach.

The sprint star said she will now be focused on training for the World Athletic Championships in Budapest, Hungary in August where she will be representing the BVI.

Athletes from some of America’s best high schools competed in track and field events at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor meet between June 15-18, 2023.
