BVI sprint dynamo Adaejah Hodge closed out her first Olympics with a 22.70s run, finishing in 8th place in the women’s 200m semifinals at the Paris 2024 Games in the Stade de France on August 5.

“Before the race, I was talking to myself to get amped up, and it seemed to work because I actually lowered my time,” Hodge said after the race. “Just finding exercises like those to prepare me for the race is what I was doing. Throughout the race, I just trusted my training, trusted what I’ve been doing leading up to this point.”

The sprint phenom said she executed her race well but remarked that she is only 18 and is now looking forward to her next event—the U20s in Peru—where she hopes to dominate.

Hodge had qualified for the semifinals earlier in the day in the repechage round, where the winners of the heats automatically qualified for the semifinals, and the next two fastest times advanced to the semifinals.

The youngest competitor in the event at Paris, Hodge is the first ever BVI athlete to have advanced to an Olympic semifinal in the 200m.

Reflecting on her first Olympic experience, Hodge expressed that the big stage takes getting used to. “It’s very hard to go out into the crowd—everyone screaming—so getting comfortable in the situation with all those fans and allowing myself to be Adaejah Hodge is something I will need to do,” she said.

So nice to read positive things about the young BVI athletes who have such pride in this country . A pity they have to share the headlines today with the corrupt politician .

  5. Why Can't We? says:

    Congratulations, well done!

Now, BVI must upgrade its tranining facitities and teachers/coaches, and focus to modern training.

When lands such as Dominica and St. Lucia. can achieve such high standards, why can’t we?

Why can’t we!!! Because our Head Coach is locked up. Dont study those letters our Head Coach not encouraging track and field, and righteousness, but greed, drugs guns and corruption. We got gold that.

The Paris Olympics shunned Sha’Carri & Shelly. The day after qualifications, they changed the entry rules without informing the only 2 olympians it would affect.

You had to be staying inside the village to gain entry through the gates, they were the only 2 NOT staying in the village.

They would have to walk a distance on concrete just to get to warm ups. This would ultimately make them miss warm ups & make injury or losing more of a threat.

Shelly decided to withdraw bc she knew it would affect her performance. Sha’Carri stayed the course & still took home silver.

The gold winner from St.Lucias’ winning time was slower than Sha’Carri qualifying time!! So before you speak negatively on Sha’Carri just know she’s a beast

It’s impossible to run in that last lane and win the race against other fast runners impossible. And why is it the runners who win are always those in the middle last three on the right.
