Huge spinoff expected from West End Ferry Terminal development
Premier Andrew Fahie has suggested that the new West End Ferry Terminal development project will prove to be a lucrative investment for the territory.
Speaking at a public meeting to address residents’ concerns last week, Premier Fahie described the project as being very important for the BVI’s economy.
“The spin-off from this project is huge. You have the car rental companies that prosper from this project, you have the vendors that will prosper tremendously from this project, you have the taxi operators that will benefit tremendously from this project and so many other areas; even new areas that you will see come forward and new entrepreneurs,” said the Premier who is also Representative of the First District where West End is located.
The Premier also expressed that there was a noticeable increase in travel and this uptick has potential benefits for each local sector of tourism.
“We are seeing the progress in terms of the arrival numbers. We’re seeing the numbers in tourism starting to rise again, and the cruise industry numbers starting to rise again, the hotel numbers starting to rise again,” he added.
“So, there’s a sector of the economy and tourism for everyone,” he continued. “Some persons benefit more from cruise tourism, some persons benefit more from the marine section of the tourism and some persons benefit more from the on-land section with hotels and the guest homes from tourism. So, there are different sectors of tourism but everyone has their niche areas in that section.”
As he invited their feedback, the territory’s leader urged residents not to limit their thoughts and actions regarding the project as it moves forward.
The Premier also said he felt that the terminal’s location is a very instrumental and focal point to allow for international travel.
“I don’t go into ‘why the First District’ or ‘why not the First District’. That, to me, is shallow thinking. It has to be in some district. Whatever project you’re doing in the Virgin Islands, it has to be in some district,” he reasoned.

As a citizen of this country, I am disheartened when I look around. Why don’t we prioritize rebuilding the schools, build a library, fix the roads, increase SSB benefits to the elderly, fix the water issues before we build such a huge building in West End that is not even the main port of entry on Tortola. Please let us reconsider this…
Huge spin off for you and the cronies. Yes, we get that. While the schools still don’t have furniture. The students at ESHS are having classes on picnic benches.
Work was supposed to start on 14 Feb. No sign of anything being done yet!
I am bewildered. So much so,I have shed a tear.
Andrew is simply ,repeatedly and habitually unfamiliar with the truth. I interpret this as lack of respect for we the people, the UK and the Almighty God. He is an all around fibber, casual untruths leave his mouth with deceit regularly a nd routinely.
This is truly sad, appalling, embarrassing and frightening. We are on the brink of disaster not knowing what is real and what is fictitious Nancy story.
He is truly the worse.
These fictitious claims concerning the fictitious new ferry dock in West End, Tortola are becoming consistently repetitive. Please stop. The current dock in West End is perfectly sufficient for the JVD ferries and private yacht operations. All the international ferries and commercial yachts can just continue to clear in and out of the BVI in Road Town. If there is any money to build this useless West End ferry terminal then it should be redirected towards other necessary improvement projects in the BVI such as the dilapidated schools, roads, sewer system, etc.
Given the choice I would much prefer to get the ferry to West End than have to go to Road Town!
ALL of that will happen with the existing ferry terminal IF the BVI makes the intelligent decision to LIVE WITH COVID and drop the vaccine and quarantine requirements. It’s over. Covid is not going away. Quarantine the SICK, not the healthy.
This whole statement of the benefits of the ferry terminal is a dog and pony show aimed at making this look as good as the airport boondoggle.
Fix the schools, sewer, water, roads then EVERYONE will benefit.
Time for election is here.
I think his head is about to spin off with all the stupid lies and stories. This is an election gimmick and the project will go nowhere in its current form. I would go as far as to say it’s worst than the BVI Airways plan and it’s sad and disappointing to hear the RDA boss supporting this foolishness.
West End is an important port of entry but it is NOT the main port of entry!!! Regardless of what you put in West End, majority of ferry traffic will go into Road Town so if any major upgrades are needed it would be there. West End simply needs a big enough space to accommodate private/day boaters to/from USVI along with the main ferries. This is akin to building massive airport Terminal over in VG knowing full well they won’t ever have the traffic to warrant such a development. We have had designs in the past for West End, just tweak to suit, i.e. hurricane preparedness etc. and move on with it. Same with the High School. How can we go from having CDB approved plans to doing completely new plans, not even tweaking the previous plans. VIP enjoy your last few months because nobody is buying what you are trying to sell.
The West End is used PRIMARILY as check in for day trips from the USVI. That’s not going to change after you spend a bunch of money on a ferry terminal.
The design doesn’t fit this usage… The fact that you are still jabbering about stuff that is not part of the actual situation has got to stop.
Put forward a design that fits the usage an MAYBE someone will get behind this, but until then, you are just making people trust you less than before (Which I thought would be hard to do…)
