‘I love it here’ | Visitor denied bail after allegedly stealing blank cheques, valuables
A St Vincent man was denied bail after he allegedly stole a number of blank cheques and other valuables from a Virgin Gorda resident during his visit to the territory.
Charged with theft and burglary is 24-year-old Justin Wright.
He was not required to plead when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards on Monday.
What the court heard happened
The court heard that on April 30, the alleged theft victim secured his minivan within which he left some cheques.
Before retiring to bed, he placed his gold chain and his phones – a Samsung and an iPhone — on his dresser.
Sometime later at about 4 am, he was awakened by other occupants of the abode who indicated to him that they were victims of a burglary. After examination, the aforementioned items were found to be missing.
The matter was reported to the police who launched an investigation. Acting on intelligence, a search warrant was executed at the home of the accused man where the items were allegedly uncovered.
“I found them on the road while walking home from a party,” Wright reportedly told the police.
The accused man was later arrested and charged. It is alleged that he subsequently confessed to being the thief.

Arguing against bail, the Crown said the man arrived on April 12 and was scheduled to be in the territory for 30 days.
Wright told the court that he was in the process of seeking a work permit ‘sponsor’. However, he is said to have been employed for the last few weeks.
“I love it here,” he told the court.
Wright who is unrepresented was denied bail and is scheduled to return to court on June 18.

The BVI is not entitled to keep another country’s bad eggs. We have ended enough of our own. Try that nonsense in other countries especially the US and UK. They will deport.

I agree with you since the hurricanes this place is out of control all kind of people is coming to our shores and most of them do not have any skill. Tell me what they really can do for this place. Instead of this place crack down they open the door plus this premier doing things with out studies I hope it will not come back to hurt the young generations. I am asking the Premier to be very careful a broken family is a broken society.
I agree, but why do we the law abiding citizens have to drop our property value with those ugly bars on our windows and doors like we are living behind a prison wall. He here in the Country for 30 days and stealing blank checks. Honestly,I believe if he didnot get caught,he would have overstayed and get lost in the system.

I am going to agree with You.It seems as if the people that is comming into the Country from down Island and the Santos is the lowest of the lows. They have no proper job skills, no formal education and some have criminal backgrounds. So tell me,what are they bringing to the Country but more problems.

Who checks the criminal status of these visitors meson? In 30 days he didn’t learn to steal, he came here a thief!! And we wonder why crime is out of control?? We need a better process of screening these people!!
Secondly, he is here visiting and seeking employment?? We know this is the normal practice, but all of this needs fixing. How is it possible, in 1 month or whenever, a thief (and I say that based on this individual track record) is back in our country, employed??? Something is wrong with our labour and immigration processes.
It is really interesting. The article states that he has been employed but is looking for a work permit sponsor. They need to find who he was working for and fine his/her behind.
A lot of this happens in the BVI and Immigration and Labour need to really do something about it.

The BVI need a Homeland Security or ICE to monitor the movements of the influx of down Island people and the ones from Santo Domingo. These people is destroying the BVI. They have no respect or regard for another man’s Country. Almost every month the UK,Canada and the USA is deporting them by the plane loads back to their Country.
I see you chose to classify the entirety of the “down island” peoples based on the actions of a select few.
