I want a BVI of no lawlessness — Flax-Charles

Government legislator, Shereen Flax Charles.

Territorial At-Large Representative and Junior Trade Minister, Shereen Flax-Charles, has expressed aspirations for a BVI society where no lawlessness exists.

Her remarks came during a debate in the House of Assembly (HOA) for a motion to establish a select committee charged with considering options for exempting House Speaker Julian Willock from payment of legal fees decided on by the High Court.

“I want to see a BVI where there is no lawlessness. And it might be a stretch, because at times, persons are humans and we all make mistakes, but what I want to see for our BVI is that we’re able to voice our opinions without having to be fearful,” the first-term legislator said.

She also expressed hopes of seeing a state where persons were no longer angry simply because of a decision someone else has made.

The legislator, while insisting that democracy was at work in the BVI, said the territory’s leaders must respect each other and the opinions made by members of the public.

She urged that legislators serve with integrity and a clear conscience in the House.

“Let us serve in this House and do what we were elected to do and that is to serve the people of this territory. That is what our first priority should be,” she stated.

Very well said Honourable Flax. Respect should not be one sided. We can refrain from calling each other crazy, fat and all the other adjectives that both sides have been using of late. We must remember what we do not want for ourselves we must not give to others. The atmosphere on the news sights is out of control and we all need to take a deep breath. Regardless of our difference of oppinion it does not give us the right to attack each other in the manner we have been doing lately. This is not the BVI I know and love.

She was letting the APPROPRIATE institution that is ALREADY in place take the lead on the matter. Your statement is a conclusion, she is not learned in such area so she deferred to the AGs office. You and all his enablers using that statement tells you all know nothing about the legal process and due process.

Kindly tell us what law they have broken. Why is it then that they have not been prosecuted by the DPP, nor were they charged by the police.

People who fail to understand the law should refrain from blogging nonsense. The lawyers were not practising law illegally.

Were they really breaking the law? Is the COI a court of law? This the first lie/misunderstanding that people need to get a grasp of. If people believe yes, then it would seem a law is being broken. Can the Speakers bring a case like he did in his capacity as speaker without permission from the house? And, if the case is to be brought, isn’t that the function of the AG Chambers?

We need to stop being sheep and having blind loyalty.

  4. Crazy says:

The VIP bloggers are on every site posting the same nonsense about COI lawyers illegally working in the BVI. If they worked illegally then they would be charged by the DPP and the appropriate process will take place. Have you ever seen the family member of a robbery or murder victim have their own court against suspects in said cases? How can the HOA or the Speaker embark on any filings or assumptions when they have no standings to do such? The Court is where criminal charges are dealt with. Practicing law illegally is a criminal charge which is not dealt with by HOA or the Speaker.

    • OBJECTIVE says:

Ask the AG why she made the decision she did .Ask what date did they start to work. Donot be fooled. the COI lawyers broke the law .ITS A FACT

Just like Cindy they are using you as the insider of your own party to do damage. You can’t tell me that if you so want lawlessness that you who is on the government side wouldn’t agree to disagree but come out under one accord to support individuals breaking the laws that are in place. ….

I will never ever vote for you again so you have one less vote and my family see straight through you …Let Sharon run in the 9th or even you. We waiting.
