Inmate charged with attempted murder
The young man facing a new charge of attempted murder is Mount Healthy resident Shakoy Lavacia, Information Officer at the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force Diane Drayton has confirmed.
As BVI News Online reported moments ago, Lavacia, who has been an inmate at Her Majesty’s Prison for some time, is now charged with the attempted murder of Kenyatta Boynes who also is an inmate.
Reports are that Boynes was outside his cell in early April when a young man attacked him with a knife and stabbed him several times on various parts of the body. He was treated at Peebles Hospital.
The wounded Boynes has been serving a minimum 30 years imprisonment for attempted murder as well as the gun murder of Paul Prentice. In a different case, he was also sentenced recently to seven years imprisonment for possessing an AK47 assault rifle along with a quantity of explosives and marijuana.
Meanwhile, Lavacia, who is now facing the fresh charge, was sentenced last year to five years imprisonment after he was found in possession of a loaded illegal gun. Lavacia previously spent a year at Her Majesty’s Prison for burglarizing Althea Scatliffe Primary School.
