‘It costing me!’| Accused burglar blasts court for constantly putting off his case while he is on remand

Accused burglar, Sidney Varlack Malone has lashed out about the constant adjournment of his matter before the Magistrate’s Court; stating that the world is in a modern era so court cases should be dealt with in a timelier manner.

The Fat Hog’s Bay resident, who is on remand at Her Majesty’s Prison, was brought before Magistrate Christilyn Benjamin on Tuesday for the continuation of his matter.

However, when his matter was called, he was informed that it would not be proceeding as scheduled and would be adjourned to September 7 and 14.

The accused man was not amused.

“It is costing me. I am in a cell with a man. [I] ain’t seeing no woman. Every time I come here it’s some sorry excuse. Who is looking out for me?” Malone questioned.

He said his case had been called at least seven times and it continues to be adjourned to subsequent dates without progress.

“That’s an extra-long time,” he argued.

‘There is a process’, court says

Magistrate Benjamin attempted to explain that “when matters come before the court, there is a process”.

The magistrate further told him that the court would not be sitting in August so September was the earliest available date.

The seemingly unmoved Malone then replied: “All I hearing is fancy words and excuses. This is a modern court with computers. This is a modern world.”

Allegations

The accused was charged with two counts of burglary to which he pleaded not guilty.

Malone is accused of burglarizing a villa two nights in a row in November of last year. Police allegedly used surveillance footage to identify Malone as the suspected culprit.

I was going court for 6 years for a simple matter and I came to the conclusion it was a willful punishment act as they knew you will be found not guilty so they want to imprison you mentally.

I don’t exactly feel sorry for Sydney but agree that our courts need to be more efficient.

    • lawyer says:

The judiciary branch is separate from the Legislative branch. So don’t go blaming the Government for this!

The accused is right to demand efficiency. Justice delayed is justice denied.
