J’Adon George and Chanecia Pinnock Crowned Mr and Miss Junior BVI
On July 29, J’Adon George and Chanecia Pinnock were crowned Mister and Miss Junior BVI at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College, marking the conclusion of the 70th Emancipation Festival’s final pageant.
J’Adon George, one of two contestants for the Mister Junior BVI title, swept most categories, winning Photogenic, Poise, Best Swimwear, Best Talent, Best Evening Wear, and Best Intellect, thereby claiming the crown.
Chanecia Pinnock excelled in the categories of Black and White Wear, Best Talent, and Best Evening Wear to secure her title as Miss Junior BVI.
The pageant featured five contestants—two young men and three young women. Although the first runner-up was not announced, T’ya Peters won second place in multiple categories: Photogenic, Poise, and Best Swimwear. Kaijaanique Hendrickson won Best Intellect for Miss Junior BVI.
The event attracted a full crowd of supporters for each contestant and was hosted by former Mister Junior BVI, Eusa Adams, alongside Adrianna Soverall.
Miss Junior BVI 2023, Ariella Oliver, crowned the new Mister and Miss Junior BVI.
Major sponsors for the event included the BVI Tourist Board and the Government of the Virgin Islands.
While this crowning marked the end of the 70th Emancipation Festival pageantries, it was held the night before the official festival opening, “Rena’s Festiville.” The Festival Opening and Torch Light Procession will take place on July 29, where the BVI Tourist Board announced the naming of the 70th Virgin Islands Emancipation Festival Village in honor of Jost Van Dyke native Larina Loretta Jacobs-Lamothe, affectionately known as “Rena.”
This year’s theme is “Celebrate our Freedom and Live in Unity as BVI Festival Turns 70!” The festival commemorates not only the 70th BVI Emancipation Festival but also the 190th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in the Virgin Islands.

Congratulations to the newly crowned Mr. and Miss Junior BVI for most deserving wins. I applaud the other contestants too. My husband and I attended and thoroughly enjoyed all performances. Well done! I also commend the pageant members committee for their hard work; the able hosts that kept us entertained; the Too Smooth Band that added a perfect touch; the lovely selection of singers that gave us beautiful renditions; the fairness of the judges in delivering their final results. Overall a clean show with no unneccesary vulgarity. We left the pageant feeling a sense contentment. For us, it was a lovely evening that was well spent. As with all things, nothing is perfect but in my opinion this committee really tried to put its best foot forward to ensure that the pageant season for the 70th emancipation celebration ended on a high note. Once again congratulations to everyone involved. I also extend best wishes to all for a happy and safe festival.
