Local sprinter clocks world-leading indoor 60m dash time
Local sprinter Rikkoi Brathwaite is currently ranked as the fastest indoor 60-metre senior male athlete in the world this season.
Brathwaite rocketed to the number-one spot after clocking a world-leading time 6.68 seconds in the event at the Gladstein Invitational in the US state of Indiana on Friday.
His time also breaks the Gladstein Invitational meet record of 6.69, President of the BVI Athletic Association (BVIAA) Steve Augustine said.
“Achievements like this cannot be overlooked. Though it’s very early in the season, he will forever be recorded as having the fastest indoor 60-metre run during the week of 10th December 2018,” Augustine told BVI News.
“The 60m dash has and will always be a heavily contested event. Rikkoi’s ability to capture a top world ranking in this event speaks volume as it relates to his capabilities and athletic possibilities. The BVI Athletics Association and wider track family truly commend Rikkoi on this achievement,” he added.
Brathwaite’s world-leading time comes months after winning bronze at 2018 CARIFTA Games.

Go for Bolt’s record next!
AWESOME!!! This is really great news. I hope to see him representing us alongside Kyron in the Olympics!
Why only 2 comments under this? Really? We have time to banter back and forth over political nonsense and cannot brag and boast about how proud we are of what this young man has done? If it was news about him committing a crime we should have dragged him through main street on here. We are sick bad.
Congrats young man and keep pushing!
Just freaking awesome!
Keep striving for the top
Good job! Keep it up, and maybe you can go faster later on in the season!!
Congrats to the young Man! Keep working hard! Very few get the chance to say ‘I was the fastest man on the world at that time’ but you have.
284 to the World!
May God continue to bless you and help you to stay the course.
Good job Rikkoi. I believe only Keita Cline.Dion Crabbe and Guy Hill ran faster in bvi athletics. I stand to be corrected.
Think he has surpassed them all now except Dion. Dion has a 10.29 as his fastest time as a senior which is the BVI record. 2019 will be his first senior year so we see what he does.
Let’s keep encouraging him. He got what it takes.
KEep up the good work Rikkoi Brathwaite
Congrats Rikkio keep up the good work.
Keep it up bro … look at man you grown into …thats mad crazy
