Malone claims closeness to Fahie led to his removal from Cabinet

Former Premier Andrew Fahie and former government minister Carvin Malone of the now dismantled VIP administration.

Territorial At-Large Representative Carvin Malone said his closeness to the now-disgraced former Premier Andrew Fahie caused him to be removed from the Cabinet following Fahie’s detention in Florida on drug trafficking and money laundering charges earlier this year.

For months, the former Health Minister had suggested that his contrasting views to the Virgin Islands Party leadership led to him crossing the floor to join the opposition benches of the House of Assembly (HOA).

But while speaking on the Talking Points show yesterday, October 17, Malone offered a completely new narrative and more insight into the behind-the-scenes wrangling that took place as leadership changes were being wrung in the wake of Fahie’s arrest.

The former Health Minister, who declined to characterise his ouster as a betrayal, revealed that the decision about his removal was conveyed to him after party leaders met with UK Overseas Territories Minister Amanda Milling and Governor John Rankin.

He reminded persons that the then-Opposition proposed that a unity government be formed in order to avert the bombshell Commission of Inquiry (COI) report’s recommendation for a suspension of the BVI’s constitution.

Malone further revealed that the then-Opposition demanded three leadership positions out of the five available Cabinet posts – one for each head of the political parties. After Fahie’s arrest, one Cabinet post was left open and two more posts needed to be vacated in order to accommodate the Opposition members’ demands.

According to the At-Large Representative, the reason that the now Opposition Leader Julian Fraser was not given a ministerial portfolio under this new coalition government was because he was named in the COI report. “So no one that’s named in the report should be in Cabinet so he chose to stay in the Opposition as opposed to coming over like Honourable [Mark] Vanterpool,” Malone said.

Malone said that former Labour Minister Vincent Wheatley was also allegedly named in the COI report for “some land deal”, therefore he too was considered “not best to come into the particular Cabinet”.

“And for Honourable Malone, well, what sin have I?” the former Health Minister asked rhetorically. “You were too close to Honourable Fahie.”

Malone said he told officials back then: “I will not allow my name to be used as the name for why we had our constitution suspended. So you can go ahead, I will sit back if that is what will save the country from having its constitution suspended.”

Malone further claimed that what transpired following Fahie’s arrest was set in motion from as far back as January 2022 when the COI had wrapped up its hearings.

You’ll find that the people who are upset about certain changes in government are the ones who were probably involved with the kurpshun themselves and are bitter cause they can’t benefit anymore. The HONEST LAW ABIDING citizens are the ones who welcome the changes because they want honest leadership. Who don’t like it can suck salt.

Know when to walk away, know when to run. It might be time to fold.

But the good news, you are a relatively good leader and has a wealth of parliamentary experience. I am willing to admit you have more to offer than the risk of choosing others lacking experience.

Even if you retain your office, your most important contribution will be in fending off UK overreach, and rebuilding the local government systems and procedures.

Good luck going into the election next year, take responsibility and show great concern to champion the peoples’ cause.

  18. Speaking of closeness to Fahie? says:

The question we should all really be asking is who else knew or were involved in Head Coach’s alleged shenanigans?

I find it hard to believe that his network of alleged co-conspirators was simply limited to the mother-son duo, and no one else will be implicated locally and charged.

Cant be. Not over allegedly 20 years involvement.

And what about Government Official 1? Are they sill employed by the government? Are they under investigation or being kept under a watchful eye?

Seems to me if we are at a point where we are presumably getting our house in order via the implementation of the COI recommendations, we ought to clean house surrounding this international scandal as well.

No stone should be left unturned if our desire is to restore what is left of our good name. IMO, this head coach mess has damaged our country’s reputation badly, and done so perhaps for ever. It’s one for the history books.

We can only move forward from here and rebuild similarly to the way we are doing from Irma or other hurricanes.

As part of that rebuilding process, we have to clean out every person who were involved directly or indirectly in head coaches alleged mess in our government and other institutions.

It’s our best hope if our collective desire is to turn fully from this damaging and shameful chapter in our country’s history and begin to write our next.

And by the way, if you know your hands are dirty, please leave God out of it unless you are repenting, hoping to change your bad ways, and seeking deliverance from evil.

Otherwise, you are asking for trouble. Your evil doings will be revealed in time. It’s called KARMA. Beware of her. She does not play, and strikes when she is good well ready and have had enough. You don’t want to meet her. She is not nice or one to play with. Free warning.

For the amount of people he f**ked up with that vaccine, and the amount of monies * and p M allegedly stole, are grounds for him to get arrested, be removed from the government and not be sitting on the opposition. As for Julian Fraser I glad they haven’t given him a ministerial portfolio, cause when he was min of communication and works he was nothing but a stubborn b**ly.
