Malone qualifies for 2021 Olympics!

Local Long Jump sensation Chantel Malone has officially secured her spot at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan this summer.

Malone leapt her way into this year’s Games by surpassing the ‘6.82 metres’ Olympic qualifying standard for the Women’s Long Jump.

She went that distance while competing at the Florida International Pro Addition Meet on Saturday, March 27.

She qualified with a jump of 7.08 metres — smashing both her personal best and the BVI’s National record of 6.69 metres.

“[Her jump] ranks second in the history of Central American & Caribbean female athletes and a soon to be ratified world-leading #2 ranked jump for 2021,” the BVI Athletics Association has reported.

In the meantime, Malone now officially joins Kyron McMaster and Eldred Henry as the third BVI athlete to qualify for the 2021 Olympics.
