Malone resigns from Unity Gov’t to join parliamentary Opposition

Malone.

Territorial At-Large Representative, Carvin Malone has announced that he will be crossing over to the parliamentary Opposition as his views are no longer aligned with the government.

Malone made the announcement a short while ago at an impromptu press conference.

The former Minister for Health & Social Development noted that the territory has been rocked by many monumental occurrences in the last few years and his now-dismantled VIP administration spent most of the 38 months in power dealing with the fallout of these crises.

“Each of these monumental occurrences has extracted millions of dollars from the public’s fund and the consequences of these extractions are yet untold and not fully understood,” Malone said.

Nonetheless, Malone noted that the layered, interim amendment to the constitution that was presented to the House of Assembly on June 9, 2022, then gazetted by Governor John Rankin was the main driver behind his resignation.

“I regrettable have considered that I have failed in my quest. The issue I now face for the remaining term of the House of Assembly is to decide how best to assist my citizens in what challenges are immediately ahead,” Malone said.

“I am equally convinced that several substantial decisions and processes adopted by the majority of my government colleagues on how best to attain this goal are in stark contrast to my views and will result in conflicts that are not beneficial to the territory’s primary goal,” he added.

Malone also noted he is unsure as to what party banner he will join the Opposition with as the Virgin Islands Party, which he is still a member of, makes up a section of the Government of National Unity.

He mentioned he will have to look into the situation and possibly cross the floor as a temporary independent candidate.

It makes no sense to even have an election because what will they do even if we get the best, most honest people possible for the job. The UK has sought to and has put a yoke around our necks for the next few years. What will any party campaign about when they can’t honestly or realistically expect to achieve anything because we have an agreement with the UK to implement the measures in the COI immediately and within the given time frame or else a suspension of the constitution. This isn’t a partnership this is straight up blackmail. The COI is the opinion of one man who obviously wasn’t impartial because of his relationship to the UK. This wasn’t a judgment given by a diverse group of people for consideration.

  15. BuzzBvi says:

So. Not a Unity Government after all. Then what is it? A one man dictator Government that hides even more from the VI people doing his own shady deals with the UK. Didn’t take long for that to unravel. UK need to just get on with replacing this entire set of jokers and bringing in new people with a better way of thinking to save all of us.

Exactly what decisions and processes are you talking about?! I could not care less about the floor crossing. Just be more transparent with the people and stop making these ‘feather’ statements. Please do better for your remaining months in the peoples’ House.
