Man arrested for assault after CGB altercation

The West End Police Station on Tortola.

A man was arrested in Cane Garden Bay following an altercation outside a local business on the evening of September 28.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) said the incident began as a verbal confrontation before escalating into a physical altercation, leaving one man with minor injuries.

According to the RVIPF, officers responded to a call at around 7:21 pm on the day in question  after receiving reports of the altercation. The victim sustained an injury during the incident, though it was clarified that initial reports of a stabbing were inaccurate.

The individual reportedly left the scene to prevent further escalation of the conflict. The police later arrested Quadeem Callwood, a resident of Cane Garden Bay, on suspicion of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm (ABH). Callwood was later charged with both ABH and being armed with an offensive weapon.

He has been granted bail and is scheduled to appear before the Magistrate’s Court on November 14. In response to concerns raised about the availability of police presence in Cane Garden Bay, the RVIPF recently explained that while two officers are stationed at the Cane Garden Bay Police Station during weekday shifts, the community is covered by the West End Police Station during weekends.

Police assured the public that officers regularly patrol the area and remain visible and accessible despite the station sometimes being unmanned.

The RVIPF has urged residents and visitors to contact the Cane Garden Bay Police Station or the RVIPF for immediate emergency assistance.

“covered by the west end police station on weekends”

The busiest time for residents, (not tourist unless its a ship day) and that is when its closed??

Serious question I dont understand how their are 300+ officers but only 2 to work this station, and its closed on weekends by their own admission?

Covered by the west end station on weekends means it is closed on weekends and they think what they are doign is enough when clearly residents are saying loud and clear that is not enough.

In fact it is the height of foolishness for the police station on the beach to be closed at all, from the eyes of any virgin islander or person raised here.

A weekend date on the beach at night gone from ‘The police are 2 minute away, its the safest beach’, to ‘The police are 20 minutes away, anything can happen’.

  2. interesting says:

There is never anyone at the West end police station.

This is very sad. How can the Police station not have Police? How can it be unmanned? There are so many businesses and its such a popular area with the beach and tourists nearby. So the bandits can do their mischief knowing that no police in the area and West End can take 20 minutes to reach when they done hold up a business and gone? Help me understand this rationale…

All of them on that block need to be moved for loitering! Smoking their weed publicly like cigarettes, swearing and treating police and tourist. Fighting each other violently. They all need gainful employment vs. Fishing once in a while or stealing.
