Man arrested for writing nearly $30K in stolen cheques

A Baughers Bay man has been arrested on suspicion of obtaining property by deception for his involvement in a scheme that defrauded an unsuspecting resident of nearly $30,000.

BVI News understands that the man, whose name our news centre cannot yet verify, is a national of St Kitts.

It is understood that he gained access to the victim’s chequebook, which reportedly contained a some pre-signed cheques.

It is reported that the accused man then used those cheques to write a number of bank orders to his benefit.

Our news centre understands that he obtained the cheque book when he or an associate had access to the victim’s home to complete a job.

It is not yet clear whether he has been officially charged.
