Man arrested in Fahie Hill after firearm discovery
Police have arrested a man following the recovery of an illegal firearm and ammunition during a search operation in the Fahie Hill area, according to a press release issued by the Police Information Office on Wednesday.
Officers carried out the operation on December 30 at a residence in Fahie Hill. During the search, law enforcement personnel recovered an illegal firearm along with several rounds of ammunition. One male was taken into custody and remains under questioning in connection with the discovery, police said.
The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force said the operation formed part of its ongoing violence reduction strategy, which focuses on removing illegal weapons from communities across the territory. The strategy prioritises the seizure of firearms and ammunition as a means of reducing violent crime.
“Firearms are the weapons of choice for many violent offenders and almost all the murders in the territory over the past 20 years have involved the use of firearms,” the police statement said.
Deputy Commissioner Jacqueline Vanterpool praised the officers involved in the Fahie Hill operation, highlighting their professionalism and commitment while carrying out their duties.
She commended officers “for their diligence, commitment and courage as the RVIPF seeks to maintain its focus on continuously improving public safety,” the release stated.
The police reiterated that intelligence-led operations remain a key component of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force approach to tackling gun-related crime. The force continues to encourage residents to play a role in public safety by sharing information that could assist ongoing investigations or help recover illegal weapons.
Anyone with information about illegal firearms, ammunition, or suspicious activity has been urged to contact the Intelligence Unit at 368-9339. Tips can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 800-8477 (TIPS), or 284-800-8477 from overseas.
Police assured that all information shared would be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
