Man in murder case refuses to attend court

Reports are that Essadro Jefferson has refused to leave Her Majesty’s Prison to attend court in relation to a fresh charge he now faces for allegedly conspiring to murder David ‘Mooney’ Springette.

Springette was gunned down outside the Wayside Bar in Fat Hogs Bay on the evening of June 21.
When the case was called up in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday afternoon, the prosecution said Jefferson was in no mood to attend.

“He has made it clear that he is not coming,” Principal Crown Council Tiffany Scatliffe-Esprit told the court.

Magistrate Vareen Vanterpool was ‘flabbergasted’ at the news. “That is interesting,” she said.

Jefferson, in the meantime, is also at Her Majesty’s Prison on a charge of attempted murder, which was laid months ago in connection with a shooting. It is alleged that, in December last year, he tried to murder Springette – the same man who eventually was murdered in June this year.
